Started watching Alien Earth.
Deep space vessel returns (crashes) to Earth carrying collected Alien life forms including a version of the original Alien itself with a couple of eggs. Who brought them back? Who now owns it? Can they even be controlled?
Doesn't follow some of the historical jump scare type of sci fi horror action you expect at every turn, but rather focuses on the type of scare new alien creatures can provide with the occasional jump scare thrown in. Is the Alien that we gave seen the worst of whats out there?and who doesn't like a little octopus?
4.5 Weyland Yutani's out of 5 hybrids so far
This guy?..we love this guy...
Hopefully gonna smash a few episodes of this with my boys this weekend. Wikipedia tells me that it’s set in 2 years before Alien in an ‘alternate timeline’ !?!?
Can one of you fern
geekssci fi enthusiasts who has watched it explain further ?that is what Gen AI is for
Alien: Earth is set in the year 2120, placing it just two years before the original Alien film, which takes place in 2122. That makes it a direct prequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, and the first live-action installment in the franchise to be set primarily on Earth.
Here’s how it fits into the broader Alien timeline:
Title Year Set
Prometheus 2093
Alien: Covenant 2104
Alien: Earth 2120
Alien 2122
Aliens 2179
Alien 3 2180
Alien Resurrection 2379
The series explores the early spread of Xenomorphs on Earth, corporate power struggles, and introduces new hybrid synthetics—all while setting the stage for the doomed Nostromo mission. Think of it as the Rogue One of the Alien universe: gritty, tense, and deeply connected to the original lore.Just realized you missed out Alien Romulous 2142
again the maker of Alien Earth has said hes not taking the events of movies outside of Alien and Aliens especially Prometheus and Covenant (and likely Romulus)
he calls it a parallel universe.nice catch I should have updated my prompt with what about Romulus? but im ok with being lazy
ok so i got curious
Romulus is a standalone story, but it’s deeply rooted in the franchise’s DNA—featuring classic elements like facehuggers, pulse rifles, and Weyland-Yutani’s sinister experiments. It even hints that the original Xenomorph from Alien was recovered and studied at the Romulus research station
so perhaps there is some tenuous link

he calls it a parallel universe.I don’t like it when that happens. Fucks with continuity and my OCD. As far as I’m aware David essentially created the Aliens with all his playing god type shit in his first two movies.
Then again, Bond and the Batman movies are all rebooted and the timelines are all over the place
tbf the Alien media universe covers nearly 50 years, and not just the movies listed above but you also have several video games and the Aliens vs Predator series too..
you have the 'originals' - Alien and Aliens
very troubled sequel - Alien 3
90s weird set a couple hundred years later sequel - Alien Resurrectionthen the 2 prequels - Prometheus and Covenant
a reboot set between Alien and Aliens - Romulus
now the tv show, not easy to tie all those together without some ret-conning and choosing to ignore several elements.
Alien Ressurection was weird but good fun. Ron Perlman was awesome in it.
Alien 3 is comfortably the worst of the bunch. Just doesn’t work for me.

Dark Winds.
Good so far an episode and a half into it.
The Indian guy from Fargo is great as the Indian police chief.
Great show
Stick with it
Good show on the whole with likable characters although I have no idea why the bad guy in season 2 is acting like he is.
Also Jim Chees powers of quick recuperation are beyond ridiculous, going from getting shot in the shoulder to climbing up inside a hospital vent is utter bullshit.

Finally got round to watching Adolescence over the weekend
Fuck me what a brutally emotional experience that was, as a father of teenage girls it made it hit even more so.
Then you have the incredible technical experience of every episode filmed in a single shot which is a marvel in itself
And the young kid who played the 13 year old boy accused of the murder, him and the father were incredible and fully deserving of their awards.
Highlight was definitely episode 3, just fucking incredible acting. Never a wasted second.
The last episode was harder to get through, and gut wrenching at the very end.
if you haven't seen it you must do so. -
Might get round to it but the hypocrisy and virtue signalling soured it for me
-
@MiketheSnow plus Graham should be known for a lot more than just "the father ".

if you haven't seen it you must do so.Seen it, brilliantly done but certainly not one you need to see again.
As you say to do the whole episodes in one take is pretty damn amazing. No one would have begrudged them filming it like a more ‘normal’ show.

that wasnt anything i was aware of or picked up on
Very much worth a watch, the technical side of its making and the acting are incredible. -

Very much worth a watch, the technical side of its making and the acting are incredible. In summary,
Original true story was not about a white working class boy
Got changed to ‘combat’ the growing white male misogyny of boys following Andrew Tate
Gets debated in Parliament
Work of fiction gets labelled a documentary by Labour politicians and is shown in schools
In the same week the real life documentary of young white girls getting raped by gangs of non-white men is ignored
Get fucked

Very much worth a watch, the technical side of its making and the acting are incredible. As the Snowman alluded to, it was not the programme itself or the makers etc that were doing the virtue signalling but the pile on from the press and some pollies was sickening. However that should not detract from the quality of the series nor from the powerful imagery and explanations.
I have to say I found it compelling viewing although was less enamoured by the last episode. I don't think that Stephen Graham does vulnerable melt down that well and it felt a bit hammy to me.

It actually was the makers who were doing the virtue signalling
Both the main writer and Graham were spinning the fiction that young white boys are 'the' menace to society
-
@MiketheSnow yeah he very rarely pulls the mixed race card, but notably got it right in there when he won the award.

I have to admit that all that stuff passed me by. Mind you I don't really get too interested what the makers, actors etc do in terms of hyping their product, so not surprised to have missed some stuff. You couldn't really avoid the press and political attention though.
I do think though, that the message that young white males are feeling more and more disenfranchised, with the consequent problems arising with females and in some instances boys form other backgrounds, both cultural and socio-economic is becoming more and more prevalent. I also feel that this is part of a wider problem in that there are great swathes of people but young men in particular who feel that their voices are considered irrelevant. It certainly informs some peoples views on subjects like immigration. Such social disaffection is meat and drink to the political extremes.

Truth in all you wrote
Unlike the inspiration and overall message of the show IMHO
