Should this week's test be the ushering-in of a new era for All Blacks?

The annoying thing about the 10 issue is that by comparison the South Africans also have challenges with their players..... Yet they rotate and when Libbok shit the bed in Joburg they brought in Pollard who was then left out in Wellington. Erasmus will tinker with the team and experiment.
Meanwhile Razor just plays BB 24/7. DMac has one start this year and there is not even a third 10 in the picture. At the very least he could vary it up to keep the opposition guessing. There is no depth being built in the position, neither is there any innovation, it's just heavy doses of Beauden Barrett.
Just relax. Everything will be fine once the vastly improved Richie Mounga comes back.
Will he ride on Santa's sleigh and come down the chimney with all of Razor's other presents?

Their next game of squash might have an extra edge….
Wow, that's a bold call from someone suckling on the Sky sport teat
Well he can’t have any drunken rumbles with Akira Ioane so this is the next best thing I guess

@reprobate last season was enough for me for DMac. He was at his erratic best, crabbing across field and putting pressure on our outsides. Plus he also had kicking issues. Yes Barrett has been poor this year but I think DMac is at best a 15 back up.
including the Ireland game?
Outside of DMac, who was nothing more than solid in that match, it's pretty damning that the best performance everyone talks about in the Razor era was against an error strewn Irish side that more lost the game than us winning it with the sheer number of basic mistakes they made. We really do rely on the opposition being below par for us to win at the moment, but if they are on form, look out, that's what happened in Wellington.
I agree, I don't think McKenzie was particularly great vs Ireland, but as you say he was solid, and solid is a step up from what we have at present (with far fewer opportunities given), and there are a lot of people on here talking about Plummer not getting a go, and maybe try Reihana etc - and at best those guys are solid.
McKenzie first half SA #1 last year was genuinely good. Admittedly Barrett has flashes too (France C 1st test) where he looks good, but it's against lesser opposition and we know it's just a flash, there will be no consistent improvement, because he's played a lot of tests. You just can't have a guy whose whole skillset is making the unlikely miracle play as your 10 and think that you're going to win consistently. -
BB
I'm assuming he's contracted to 2027.
That'll be his 16th season in the AB set set up. (14th season right now.)
Dan Carter; 13 seasons.
Colin Meads; 15 seasons.
You'd have to think he's close to done.
Especially when you'd think the competition at the top of international rugby is stiffer now than when he started. -

Richie Mo'unga seems to be developing into the mythical saviour in Robertson's mind. Just like Robertson himself was touted as the saviour of AB rugby 18 short months ago.

Oh good grief some of that was ridiculous. The jizzfest from the media was completely over the top and in retrospect quite disrespectful to Ian Foster. The interview at the surf lifesaving club was some of the most embarrassing cheerleading I’ve ever seen.

What is it that these youngsters say these days, Richie Mo’unga appears to be living rent free in a few of the Ferners heads….

what, the bloke that the coach keeps banging on about? And refuses to play other 10s? Yeah, rent free buddy, good call.
-
I'd say, if Mo'unga was available right now, there is absolutely no way Robertson would be playing Barrett ahead of him at 10.
And neither would I.
I'd have BB on the bench, comin on with 10 to 20 to go, if you needed to make something happen.
In fact, never liked Barrett as a starter. Comin on late with some players starting to tire, perfect. -

Less about RM and more about Robertson's apparent obsession with him stopping younger talent being developed.
As things stand, we'll have a 35 & 36yr old at 10 for RWC2027 with bugger-all in the cupboard after that.

DMac is fine where he currently is - the 10/15 backup on the bench.
BB needs to be jettisoned completely, and we need to identify a specialist 10 (or two) to run the team.

He clearly doesn't seem himself as a multi term coach based on his talent development strategy, at least where 10 is concerned

It’s not the coach. It’s a massive media beat up.

“He served our country for a long time, and he’s going to come back and do it again.
“One thing we’re really proud of is the retention of all of our players. We’ve got a group of guys that are hugely committed to the All Blacks, and it’s great to have another one back.”
