Born in Southern Rhodesia before the family moved to Upper Volta. The old man got a job in Burma before being transferred to Zaire. Short stints in Burma (again) and Swaziland.
Melbourne, All Blacks.
Whaaaaaat? You're practically South African man!

Right? And then I go and get lumped in with the South Island team in TSF Tipping!

I won a tie break in a quiz in Sydney by knowing the capital of Burkina Faso is Ouagadougou.
One of the few countries anywhere I wouldn't want to visit. Most are in West Africa

as you relish pedantry it's actually Okiato that was, briefly, the capital.
Okiato being Wellington to Russell's Auckland.
Ok.
Had a book in the deep dark distant past that describes Russell, then known as Kororareka as "The Hellhole of the Pacific", which has stuck with me for 40+ years.
Happy to be advised of my error..

Born in Welly and spent my first 20 odd years there, then moved to Auckland and lived there for over a decade. Now back north of Wellington up the coast to be closer to family. Also spent a lot of time as a kid (months at a time) in England as that's where my Mum and all her family lives. Support All Blacks as my first team, England as my second. Locally I am a Canes man through and through but support the Blues as my second team as my oldest boy is a Blues man after growing up there.

I was at a work trivia a couple of weeks ago and the question was name 10 countries that have changed names in the last 30 years and I was only one that got it….

Lower Hutt, PNG, Lower Hutt, Brisbane, Oslo, Brisbane.

I regularly tell my toddler that Dunedin is his home town. He's been there once.
Live in Lower Hutt.
Teams; Highlanders, Otago and ABs in third. Would skip a late ABs game. Wouldn't do it for a Landers game.

Fuck me, who chooses to live in Lower Hutt once let alone twice ?

I’ll never understand this. That’s not a dig at you, it’s basically the entire football world - but club over province over country, I just can’t wrap my head around it
I’m AB’s first, then an absolute chasm to any of the Canes/Manawatu/Welly

Me too, although my gap from ABs to Magpies is tiny, but my gap from Magpies to Chiefs is pretty big, and TBF I'd probably have Hastings Boys above the Chiefs.

I grew up in Lower Hutt. At least it wasn't in Naenae.

Absolutely. The Super teams have yet to forge their traditions/legacy in the way that provinces and clubs have over the many years. I'd guess many of the Welsh Ferners would be the same about the provinces. Irish probably less so as they've had theirs for years.
