I regularly tell my toddler that Dunedin is his home town. He's been there once.

    Live in Lower Hutt.

Teams; Highlanders, Otago and ABs in third. Would skip a late ABs game. Wouldn't do it for a Landers game.

I’ll never understand this. That’s not a dig at you, it’s basically the entire football world - but club over province over country, I just can’t wrap my head around it

I’m AB’s first, then an absolute chasm to any of the Canes/Manawatu/Welly

Me too, although my gap from ABs to Magpies is tiny, but my gap from Magpies to Chiefs is pretty big, and TBF I'd probably have Hastings Boys above the Chiefs.

    Totally get that

Absolutely. The Super teams have yet to forge their traditions/legacy in the way that provinces and clubs have over the many years. I'd guess many of the Welsh Ferners would be the same about the provinces. Irish probably less so as they've had theirs for years.

NZ, living in Hope BC, Canada these days (its where they filmed Rambo, First Blood) - was in Vancouver for 11 years, and then got out of the city into the sticks 2 years ago. Love it.

And also, Nepia changes his Super team on the slightest of whims, so no wonder it's well down his power rankings...

    😁

I find the high expectations with the All Blacks to be a bit of a drag. Lose, the world is falling in. Don't play perfectly and win, they are shit. Play well, dominate and win, it is just the expectation. It is all a bit political too. I will watch most ABs games and have a strong understanding of the systems and players. Enjoy the vibe of the pub or a live game though.

With my Landers there is more of an ability to understanding the story of players and the team. You can track where they have come from. The development. Then there is the ups and downs of the 30 year history. There have more bad years than good. The thrill of beating a Crusaders, Blues or going on a decent run is exciting. Same with seeing guys that are a bit of an unknown perform. It is an underdog thing.

Otago has had the same level of underperformance for a longtime as well. It is interwoven into the Landers system too. Tracking guys like Lucas Casey and Dylan Pledger has been great to watch. Will also follow our Landers with other NPC sides as well. Have watched all of Southland and Auckland with some of our key guys being with them.

I actually played for Naenae Old Boys back in the 70s for a season, in lower grade. Lived in Upper Hutt in those days.

And now, Naenae has a flash new pool. The locals are still feral though.

Recollections coloured by going back there in the mid-2000's - when it really was a dump

But my first job was in Naenae - telephone exchange.. Used to cross the railway line and have a cheeseburger and chips at lunchtime. Had a girlfriend who lived in Rata St (still friends on Facebook). Good memories

Had plenty of Naenae friends when I played (badly) for Hutt Valley Marist.

I've lived mainly within the wider Waikato region. I was born in Thames and lived on the 25A road at Hikuai until the family moved to Onewhero. I consider Onewhero my home district. I came down to Hamilton for love about 22 years ago, that didn't work out but I have been here since then apart from a year closer to home and down in Gisborne when my son was born. Once my son has confirmed his University plans I might move away.

Counties is my team at Provincial level. I'm a Chiefs supporter but if I hadn't moved to Hamilton that might have been different.

That's cool Mike. We enjoyed an afternoon in Thames a few months back having driven down from Coromandel along the firth of Thames. Its a nice little town. NZ really is a magical country, can't wait to return.

That makes two of us on here! Not a lot of success results wise on the field for too long now but "there is always next year". At least we have to consolation of a few craft beers on tap in the Isherwood Lounge so you can still buy a standard jug or a large jug to consume whilst fulfilling the aftermatch requirements of NZs most continuously playing rugby club. Incidentally the next NZRFU President is an Axeman Life Member (Erin Rush)

People in Chch would laugh at me for saying this, but it's a beautiful partof the world!
