@Mauss re the loose forward comparison vs Ireland - the red card has to make a big difference there. The Irish were buggered late in the game, they had to make a lot of tackles as you point out. Also the fact that it was Beirne, who is an extra loose forward for them, and one of their best.
Sititi came on and dominated late - looks like if you take out his carry metres, the Irish had more? So are we really doing the right thing with our starting loosies?

That, to me, just comes across as letting the Irish loose forwards off the hook rather easily. Aren’t Jack Conan and Josh Van der Flier both 50-cappers while also being British and Irish Lions? They should be able to lift for 20 minutes with Beirne off the field, after which he could be replaced. That’s not even mentioning another 50-capper on the bench in Caelan Doris.

Again, my intention wasn't to claim that the AB back row is particularly settled: blindside remains an issue while Savea’s eclectic positioning makes any loose forward combination a complex exercise. But, for now at least, there are a few things which are working, and that’s including Sititi’s performances off the bench. After a difficult start it would’ve been easy for a player like Sititi to spiral so the fact that he’s once again putting in performances – even in shorter bursts – is good to see.

It's far from perfect but it's also not quite a disaster either.

    @No-Quarter

The big plus is we kept our cool when under pressure. That's been a bit wayward in some games recently but looks to heading back in the right direction. Not quite up to the standard of the 2023 RWC KO stage, but getting there.

He helps (as does Jordie) but it's more a team, cultural thing.

Also think Ardie as captain helped on Saturday

This win is a huge boost for the confidence for the rest of the tour. The scottish forwards won't match the ABs during the last 20 minutes.

@Bones thank you for the Joey Swoll reference. Being implored to do better by a muscle bound gym bro is what the world needs more of.

I'm basically Joey with hair, except I can do two flips.

@Old-Alleynians they have their moments where it seems to click but not consistent enough
Think we have pretty much settled on the playing group so hopefully the consistency comes next

Ireland are definitely heading on the downslide with a aging roster and uncertainty at 10.

Although it would be good of them to pull a massive performance out of the hat and get a win against the Boks in a couple of weeks time…..

Prediction: An easy win for us.

If there are petty cards or too much TMO I'll lose my fucking shit.

I wonder were the reffing crew given a tap on the shoulder to say "we are trying to grow the game here, ease up on the douchebaggery".

This was my post two minutes before kick off.

    Sad state of affairs.

People are disillusioned with the game and justifiably so.

    The sport is being destroyed.

Us beating Ireland wasn't unexpected, they haven't been strong since 2023/22.

I agree with other posters with a feeling Scotland have more potential to give us a scare this week & England have a lot more individual talent right now compared to Ireland, who don't have any strong ball carriers or speed in the backline nor impactful players - as shown by the bench discrepancies last week.

I couldn’t help thinking that at about 60 the ABs seemed to relax and then their play flowed with real dynamism which the Irish couldn’t handle.

    Maybe some psychology to sort?

I've had this vague thought for an age.
B.Barrett in particular - used to be fucking awesome when just having fun... playing like he's back on the farm doing chip-kicks and re-gathering them at will. Then when trying to play a structured game... under pressure like Bowie and Mercury - shit.
The rest of the team... maybe has become the same.
And that's definitely a coaching thing... I wouldn't know how to coach that: "play naturally when you're feeling it; but play differently when maybe that's not quite working and just do this structure"

I think Williams go ahead score made all the difference in the world.

The ABs played so much better with the lead than they did when trailing.

If you're used to winning, you are always confident you can find a way to win and you are confident in what you do, and under pressure you just up the intensity and accuracy. See our players vs Ireland in Dublin 2013.
If you're used to losing, you lack confidence. You freeze up or start doing silly low percentage things - because when you do what you normally do you lose, so you need a miracle play - when it looks like you might lose again. See Sexton's missed kick in Dublin 2013, and our current ABs when they get scoreboard pressure.
