It’s pretty clear that there isn’t a standout player this year. Boks start/sub selections and rotation make it difficult. The Lions series was underwhelming without any star performers. NZ and France obviously flawed for different reasons.

More than happy for Marx to get it as a lifetime achievement award.

Marx? For the reasons noted above that's worse than BB's second award. Probably equally as bad as Dusatior over Kaino in 2011.

But like @game_film notes, as a lifetime achievement award it's fine.

I'd have gone with Maro Itoje. Captain of an England team who lost one game all year. Captain of a Lions team who lost one game in Australia.

Hard to think of a rugby player who had a better 2025.

He'd have got my vote from the shortlist, then Marx.
