Oh for the days when Bob Cunis referred to the Pakistan cricket team as the Pakis on TV broadcast....

"A sexualised slur directed towards minors"

An old Christchurch joke (1940's is the earliest reference), but probably not a good thing to say on the telly.

Obviously wasn't the thing to say on the telly, especially in today's environment. I just don't think it's newsworthy. The coverage in the news probably exposed it to a wider audience. Now we all know what it means.

@Crazy-Horse Totally, the CC headmaster has unleashed a Streisand Effect, which is what my Syrup mates have been calling it...

Definitely around when I was at school many years ago. Pretty silly of Stevenson to go there on TV, unless he wants out of his contract.

On a side note I am disappointed, but not surprised, Stevenson is in trouble for calling the Chirst College guys 'syrup suckers'. It was just a bit of banter and sadly as usual nowadays there seems to be people lining up to be offended on behalf of others. So much for sticks and stones.

I'm an old boy and thought it was funny. 🙂

The headmaster should have just ignored it.

I'll be sure to tune into Scotty Stevensons tearful apology when the cricket starts this morning.

I've felt Ravindra has possibly been talked up slightly too much on here and was maybe a bit of a flat track bully but I'm coming round to him. He came in at a potentially banana skin period and has utterly dominated.

Very, very nice to watch too. Left handers often are for whatever reason.

Nice to see you finally coming around - 116 off 89 balls vs Aussie at the 2023 ODI World Cup hardly says flat track bully.

Now that he has close to 20 tests under his belt hopefully should continue to look more and more comfortable in test matches.

    He just did.

Said he didn't know the background to where the term had come from.

Which is possibly true, since the first time I heard the story, it was that Boys High kids had poured golden syrup onto the CC 1st XV in their basement changing rooms.

The next story I heard was different.

I did say "possibly" and "maybe".....and lots of guys thrive in ODI cricket and not Tests and vice versa. He's definitely looking good in the longer form now. KW, him and Mitchell is a seriously strong unit.

Just watched Scotty Stevensons apology, he came across genuine and that should be the end of it but apparently the School in question has officially complained. Good grief. It was hardly Dean Jones referring to Hashim Amla as a terrorist.....

Ravindra has a way to go yet, he hasn't kicked on as much as I hoped he would by now. He still has a strong tendency to throw his wicket away after getting set - it's a concentration thing - but something he needs to tighten up on in the test arena. He should be averaging closer to 50 IMO.

Hmmmm, current average is still very good, better than most. 50 ( quite rightly ) is what the very best generational players average.

At the moment Ravindra is Ross Taylor level ( and he also had a habit of throwing his wicket away )

Will Young doesn't last long - won't be getting the quick hundred I thought might be a possibility.

Be nice to see Foulkes grab a few runs here.

Young on borrowed time? Just hasn’t grabbed his chances well enough IMO.

Yeah pretty annoying. I was hoping for a cheeky not out at the very least.

Mitchell will walk back in obviously, Young AND Conway aren't exactly being that compelling overall though. One would imagine one of them will struggle to get in.

He’s 33 now, had 22 tests and an average just under 33.

Time to move on from his as the reserve batter.
Theres got to be a young fulla worth bringing in, surely?

@Gunner Rhys Mariu - has the record (averaging 56 in FC cricket). Caveat that I haven't actually seen him bat!

    Further to the Young thing.

Is Mitchell back for Wellington ? If so that to me is a straight swap with Conway probably the lucky one given 0,37 two dropped catches ( and one well taken one ) isn't exactly having a great match.

I'd think Mitch Jr is pretty close if he can field at first slip.

Young and Conway both scored 37 in this test. But, it will surely be Young who sits out if Mitch Jr comes back in.
