@sparky and they've done this so far without Cummins of Hazlewood in either game, and Lyon for this test.

Their 2-2 result against India, and India getting whitewashed by the Proteas, puts a few things into perspective.

@NTA England produce an occasional elite cricketer: Joseph Root, Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad, in spite of their player development system rather than because of it.

The whole way young players are coached and developed in the UK need looking at.

This England team are Stringer Bell. Batters not smart enough, Bowlers not hard enough.

Would you put those two in Roots class ? I think they were more admirable for their longevity rather than being absolute elite players. Cook was another one. Pietersen obviously learnt to play in SA as opposed to England......

Things looking pretty dire for the Poms although after the test here yesterday it's best not to write anyone off completely, stage could be set for a Stokes marathon.

A good summary of Pope IMHO, and probably the whole Bazball thing in general.

England take it to a 4th day. But they still need 43 runs to make Australia bat again.

This series is very one-sided indeed.

    Australia are better team.

    Then there's daylight

    Then there's more daylight.

    Then there's more daylight.

    Then more daylight.

    Then there's England.

I reckon if Starc was an Englishman, there's a fair chance England would be winning this series. He's so much better than any other bowler on show.

But, BMac has empowered his team to play like morons.

Cummins and Hazlewood out of the first two tests - all you have to do is nullify Starc and you can bazball away at all the others, including Boland.

But, they've flailed away at Starc in some of the stupidest and most suicidal cricket I've ever seen. Harry Brook's first innings dismissal would have to be among the most foolhardy I've seen in test cricket.

He and BMac should both have a look at Brendon's effort in the ODI World Cup final against - I think - the same bowler.

@Chris-B Exactly. It is unbelievably dumb to just play the same game regardless of all circumstances. They basically had as good a chance as they were going to get served up to them on a platter, and were too bloody stupid to take advantage of it.

Will Jacks seems to be Englands Michael Bracewell. Batting low and probably not test standard as a spinner. Seems to be the done thing to have one of those in a team these days.

These two are about to make Oz bat again at least. Amazing what can happen when they put Bazball away and actually play test cricket.

At least England are going to make Australia bat again. It's not been a total capitulation.

    Learning from Greaves and Roach?

Oz going with the same short pitched approach that didn't work for us.

Will be too little too late in this test for England unless a miracle happens.

I've been out since about 3.30 so missed the carnage. Just saw highlights and Smith's catch was spectacular. What a freak.

He’s no Glenn Phillips but it was a decent effort I guess. Hardly a freak

Well done on another Ashes hammering, I thought Stokes and Jack were doing ok before Neser struck !

Australia are going to knock these off in double quick time.

Great news for England. They will be able to get a full round of Golf in tomorrow.

England get a couple of wickets. Too little, too late?

Aussie need 24 runs, England 8 more wickets.

70 more runs and England would have been right in this.

Smith is smashing them around the ground.

    Aussie need 15 to win.
