I doubt the same kind of pitch will be prepared this time next year

Australia opening the batting with Scott Boland.

    So much potential for weirdness...

    • golden duck to end first innings, then opens batting for the second...
    • Could Tongue get a hat-trick, with two of the wickets being the same batsman? Has that been done before?
    • can he get some wickets in second innings, and claim a 10-wicket haul plus credit as opening batsman?

Conway and Latham proved there are still quite a few records and firsts out there still to be broken…..

The same batsman out twice in a hatrick has apparently happened once in first class cricket.

Boland will also be at the non-strikers end first thing this morning.

Just when this Ashes series wasn't enough of a farce, the MCG provides that pitch. Groundsman should be sacked.

Probably the only time Brookes batting approach was justified Get as many runs as you can before a ball with your name on it ends your innings.

He's disappointed this series but third behind Crawley ( ?!?! ) and Root in runs scored for England this series.

Yep, from a shot of it this morning, my first reaction was they'd forgotten to mow it.

England drop another catch. Will Jacks lost sight of the ball. Head survives.

Gus Atkinson has done his hamstring and won't bowl again in the match or the series. Opportunity for Australia to post a big score now.

Somewhat ironically, it's the sort of game where Bazball is the most likely of the 4th innings tactics to have a chance.

Five down. Khawaja on ball two. Seemed surprised by the bounce, but a very half hearted shot.

Carse gets another! Six down - I was thinking Carey and Smith are Australia's two most obdurate batsmen, but they 're quickly parted.

Bounce is all over the shop. Batting looks hard as fuck.
Head faced 50-odd balls and never looked comfortable.

Beautiful day at the G too. Glad I'm in the shade for the rest of the day

    Random unrelated observations ...

    1. Is it just me or is Carse's run up (from front o , nots so much the action) quite reminiscent of Allan Donald?
    2. The Poms have got the first slip way in front of the keeper. Is that usual?
