@KiwiMurph us Highlanders fans might question the "available immediately" bit
He could do both in 2026
See Deans 2008 and Kiss 2026
Kiss will be getting help from Schmidt until he leaves. I doubt Robertson would be so obliging.

I doubt Robertson would be asked !

Right, it's been about 5 mins of silence in here, what's the latest?
-
@African-Monkey I’m checking every minute mate.
-
Are we getting a 5am NZT press release?
I reckon Kirk knows he has to make a strong decision here. And he won’t sleep at night if he doesn’t do it.
Razor’s entire mantra was culture and connection. Some of us thought he was more than that, but that’s how he’s marketed himself every step.
If the culture is as bad as reported then he’s got to go.
-
@African-Monkey I'll stir the pot with a small tidbit, and let the plot thicken.
If Jamie Joseph has been shoulder tapped, he hasn't told his family members. As of this evening, one member of his close family, has expressed serious doubt that there's anything to the rumours he'd get the role.
If Razor is going JJ may not be the replacement. Or if JJ is the replacement, he hasn't told his family.

Love it mate and loving your info too. Keep it coming if you have more!
-
@handa457 I reckon from a PR standpoint they won’t announce the next coach so soon anyway.
They’ll spread it out so they deal with the fallout and then perhaps have a full and transparent hiring process. It might end up being JJ but they also have him primed to go on about 5 mins notice.
Believe JJ wouldn’t say anything out of respect for the situation.
-
Although I don't think you are wrong, those two things don't got together.
If JJ is the one they want, appoint him. If they want a full and transparent process, do that.
The dress up, looks transparent but isn't, is one of the reasons why we are in this mess.

Heard from the bloke who cleans our village pub that his brother-in-law, who lives in Dunedin, had heard from a mate's sister's boyfriend that he'd heard someone talking at the airport on their way to Wellington last week that......he picks.a lot of good stuff on The Fern..

Either the Coaching staff or the "sauces" quoted here....
Either way, most entertaining thread for years.

I call bollocks. If he's really from Dunedin then he's talking to himself.

Anyway what's with the Jamie Joseph love? He's won a single title (albeit a great one) but just came off a wooden spoon winning year. Someone help me understand where the call for him to be ABs coach even comes from?
Here's a few ideas (in addition to his time as Highlanders coach):
-
Test experienced coach who is available immediately
-
only coach to get Japan into RWC quarter final
-
beat Ireland and England as Maori All Black Coach
-
just lead an undefeated end of year tour of the AB XV in which I presume NZR would have player feedback
-
Presumably has good 'references' from recent senior NZ rugby players that would be tight with current senior ABs (Aaron Smith, Ben Smith etc)

I love JJ and what he did in 2015, but across his entire career outside of NPC, he only has one season where his team has achieved a positive points differential. That’s absolutely shocking.
He took over a Japanese side that had beaten the Springbok and won soemthing like 17 pacific nations cups in a row. His best asset was Tony Brown and it doesn’t work great without him

@Bones said in All Blacks 2026:
@jimmyb something to consider - I can't see Brown wanting to coach against JJ...
Brown coming over is literally the only possible silver lining for this (and the possibility of Savea never playing for the ABs again). The current situation is terrible and the alternatives are worse
-
If the rumours are true and they need a new coach, he'd have to be available, have significant Test experience, able to work under pressure and be able to gel players and coaching staff together.
Who best fits that criteria?

Left of field but I don’t think the likes of Rennie, Schmidt, Crotter are up to it. All three of have good squads (Rennie was buggered by injuries I’ll admit) and under performed. Schmidts one dimensional game plan shat the the bed when it mattered, Crotter didn’t make the best out of what was a good squad and the best Scottish squad they’d had at the time, and Rennie wasn’t amazing with the Wallabies.
There is one bloke out there who’s been to a World Cup semi final, consistently beaten top tier teams, and has dominated the domestic scene every time he’s touched it and that’s Robbie Deans
