Not a new signing. It’s an extension for Mr Roigard.

To follow up on this from last week with some extra oil. I wanted to wait until it was officially announced.

The Blues were pushing extremely hard for Roigards signature which is part of the reason why the extension was announced a year earlier than expected.

Canes managed to keep their guy, a great boost to start the season .

Imagine the first game at the caketin and they trot out Roigard and Barrett halves pairing. I reckon Colesy would storm the pitch

@Canes4life selections should be pretty straightforward for the Scotsman a spine of Roigard, Love and Jordie at fullback, Higgins at 12 🙂 it's has the hallmarks of a grand finalist team

No sabbatical in Roigard's contract confirmed by the man himself on Sport Nation.

He's determined to win a championship with the Canes, a WC with the ABs and a Lions Tour win.

@Grooter you'd hope that's the case but my worry is that he went conservative at the playoff stages last year, let's hope he gets the Canes moving like he did in 2024.

You don't get sabbaticals after 2-3 years anyway, Why the hell would someone whos been around for 5 minutes get one?

Because of the power of negotiation. The key All Black says he wants something. You can say yes, or no. If you aay no, it leaves the option up to the player to say, fine I will take my swrvices to somewhere that'll pay some sweet sweet euro.

Not in this case though. Nice from Roigard.

@SouthernMann Yep mate, but I don't think Roigard would know he wouldn't be eligible anyway.confident t. No player to my knowledge has even asked (nor do I know if Roigard did) this early, as NZR's guidline (nofficial but have heard them say) is over about 70 tests to be granted one.

And what I am saying is that Roigard is seen as a premier AB and if he really wanted one NZR would make a concession and give him one.

All a game of ifs, as it sounds like he didn't seek one.

Yep, he didn't seek one which shows the character of the man.

@Dan54 Was Jordie to Leinster a sabbatical? Not sure but he was 27 I think, and Roigard will be older than that by the time this contract finishes?

And after a WC and Lions tour, I'd expect him to take a sabbatical in 2030 and then come back prior to the next WC in 2031.

He shouldn't have been moved from 10 last year when he and Roigard were humming. A conservative decision by Laidlaw that predictably backfired.

Absolutely, which is why I’m worried that he’ll do the same this year.

The Canes need to start the following backline if they are a chance at winning the comp IMO. Again it will be whether we can keep players fit, that ultimately derailed our season last year.

    1. Roigard 10. Love 11. Naholo 12. Higgins 13. Proctor 14. Moorby 15 Barrett
      Reserves: 21. Vijoen 22. Harkin 23. Fineanganofo
