Fucking hell. How can the Tahs be losing to the Brumbies? Phipps is fucking terrible. A scrumhalf that can't fucking pass.

    He's incredibly slow, too.

Just read that Quade was sent off for a high tackle this morning. Looking at the video I'm not sure that is a red card. Perhaps Fraser was just surprised that Quade made a tackle?

Watched brumbies vs tags ... brumbies were worthy Of the points I thought.

What was worrying though ... the crowd. Expected 30k plus for this match but doubt it was even half that. Worrying times for oz rugby fans.

I didn't watch the game, but just noticed the result of Sharks v Kings: only 19-17 to the Sharks.

Last year, the Sharks won this game 53-0 in round 13.
Hell, last year the Sharks even beat the Canes in Durban , were only just beaten by the Chiefs in Hamilton by two points and defeated the Landers in Dunedin by one point.

Are they sliding downhill really fast?

The Lions didn't get tested going backwards or out wide really but if he shows himself to be a brave defender then I'd say the Lions uncovered a true gem in 19-year-old winger Madosh Tambwe. Did everything he was asked to do very well and those little extra things that seperate the journeyman from the guys who go all the way.

Hasn't been a finisher like him in Jo'burg since Bryan Habana made the similar jump from U-19's.

And most importantly we need more physical wingers such as him out there so we can have more confidence to move the ball out there.

Last word on Lions game: Rohan Janse van Rensburg an absolute star and whoever in the Bulls organisation let him go as "your services won't be required in the future" should be shot. He is as they'd say in the NFL, a franchise player. Miles better then any of Kriel (best not pick him for the Boks this year. Has done nothing to warrant even being one), Odendaal & Swanepoel at the Bulls franchise that did not want him. (I exclude Serfontein because I still think he's every bit as good in a rubbish organisation)

    Tambwe's U-19 record last year:

    • 400 minutes player over 9 games, mostly off the bench.
    • scored 16 tries including 4 when he came in with 30 minutes to go in final round robin and 3 in the final against Western Province when he came on with 20 minutes to play.

I just saw that now - WTF!!! A red card for that. The predicted stupidity of this directive is coming true.

Might have been Harsh on Quade but if the TMO opened his eyes he'd have seen Jantjies lifted past the horizontal right behind that which would've warranted a red.

I reckon it was fair enough. It was a swinging arm right round the neck.

Btw it's not the first time penishead has been carded for that swinging arm.

Fuck him and fuck the Reds for wasting their time and money on him.

Hmmm, me thinks you may be a wee bit biased against Quade .... (Me I'm happy for the Reds to waste their money across the board).

Just watching the replay again, it's a high tackle, not a swinging arm.

It was a possible yellow card offence even by the old interpretations.

So with that in mind, under the new interpretations, it's not too surprising that he copped a red.

It that wasn't a swinging arm then it was pretty fucking close to it.

Yes I hate Quade but I'm happy enough to see red cards for those.

Trouble is, I've seen other similar high tackles this weekend that weren't even penalised.

Okay, so not a stiff arm like Luatua. The tackled player had the ball, unlike TNW in Luatua's tackle.
But unlike TJP last night, Cooper didn't go for the ball but for the player.

I think TJP's yellow was correct. Luatua's red was correct. Now, somewhere in-between fits Cooper's high tackle.

    Haven't seen the citing yet.

definite YC, RC seems harsh and this is where I feel something needs to be done due to the risk of ruining a game with 15 v 14 for 35 mins...but thats me.

You can only blame the weather so much, too. It has been pissing down on and off the last week or more, but that doesn't explain all of it. I remember when we had 44,000 to a Brumbies game at the SFS in the early noughties, but could only manage 32k in the 2014 major semi.

The fact is, rugby is on a downward spiral in Australia, and Sydney in particular. I'm hearing Junior signups are down 30% across Sydney competitions, for example.

The game isn't in front of enough eyeballs, and quite frankly the quality of our domestic teams isn't worthy of enough eyeballs. Cutting teams won't actually help any of them get better, because the system is broken.

Park footy (Suburban Rugby) is suffering for a lack of playing numbers, while support from higher powers is near nonexistent, and volunteers are experiencing burnout at a rapid rate. The big change in the demographics playing rugby have contributed to this; a lot of guys work Saturdays now, or night shifts and can't make training.

A lot of the guys simply don't want to help with the volunteering aspect of it, and/or think they're superstars who don't have to pay fees and that everything is put on for them. To put a fine point on it, the Kiwi and Islander guys at our club are the hardest to get money out of. They'll rock up to training in a brand new V8 ute but cry poor at a rego deposit of $100 and say "we don't pay rigo at home, bro!"

They guys who DO pay are usually there for a bit of fun, and getting pounded physically and on the score board by guys nearly twice your size is NOT fun, by definition.
