Pretty sure if you are offside like that you have to move back (i.e. Make an effort to basically turn around and get back behind the kicker). You can't just get magically put back onside by a faster player.

It's related to the 10 meter offside law I think.

If a guy kicks the ball behind you but runs past, doesn't that then put you onside? Not sure if that applies here though.

Yes, as long as you don't progress down the field until you're put onside.

Regardless, I don't think Jordie did get in front again. Here's the clip:

Looks to me like he goes in front within the next couple of paces. Laumape was slowing down so you could argue he was stopping advancing...JB isn't exactly lightening.

the rule is, if you are in front when it is kicked, you either stand still or move back, slowing to allow the guy in front isnt going to put you onside, unfortunately in that situation, Laumape is always offside, and if he stops then starts he doesnt catch the ball, so being in front has a big impact on the play.

@taniwharugby no, the law is you don't move towards the opposition or where the ball is going to land or you risk sanction. JB goes in front almost immediately after kicking the ball...

It's like BB has decided passing is passe, he wants to kick for tries this season haha. His skill executing it, and awareness of when to take the option, are outstanding.

Laumape is used to RL where you never have to be behind the kicker. 😀

Jordie could have probably regained the ball himself.

Im surprised people even debating this. Laumape offside every day of the week there. A rugby 101 type decision.

@Bones isnt that what I said, just with different words?

Laumape was in front when kicked and did move forward toward the opposition, toward the ball the entire time, so clearly offside.

@taniwharugby the entire time? It's literally less than a second.

@Bones doesn't matter. That's why I said he magically has to stop then start again.

                          Relevant law:

                          11.1 Offside in general play
                          (a)
A player who is in an offside position is liable to sanction only if the player does one of three things:
Interferes with play or, Moves forward, towards the ball or Fails to comply with the 10-Metre Law (Law 11.4).
                          &
                          (c) Offside and moving forward. When a team-mate of an offside player has kicked ahead, the offside player must not move towards opponents who are waiting to play the ball, or move towards the place where the ball lands, until the player has been put onside.

@Bones so yes then, the entire time....in front is in front, and even more relevent is that he scored, or was in a position to do so....

I see Laumape slowing and changing angle to get behind Barrett for a pass, only to be put onside and take off again...

@Bones but even as you alluded to above:

He was still moving toward the opposition or where the ball was going to land, only way he gets onside there is to stop.

Think that rule of everyone being able to be put on side by a player moving forward changed last millenium??
