    Lydiate? Seriously?

A few years ago after Pichot got his post he wrote an article about the 5 best players he saw - Pichot was one of them.

    As was Dallaglio.

    As was Jonathan Davies.

See any of them in his team?

Jones can pick who he wants. Simon Shaw would seem his most eccentric choice. My team is better.

Best Players Sparky has seen (ie since 1983):

1 Os Du Randt (South Africa) 2. Sean Fitzpatrick (New Zealand) 3 Pascal Ondarts (France) 4 John Eales (Australia) 5 Brodie Retallick (New Zealand) 6 Richard Hill (England) 7 Richie McCaw (New Zealand) 8 Buck Shelford (New Zealand) 9 Joost van der Westhuizen (South Africa) 10 Dan Carter (New Zealand) 11 Jonah Lomu (New Zealand) 12 Maa Nonu (New Zealand) 13 Danie Gerber (South Africa) 14 David Campese (Australia) 15 Serge Blanco (France)
16 Phil Kearns (Australia) 17 Steve McDowell (New Zealand) 18 Jason Leonard (England) 19 Martin Johnson (England) 20 Michael Jones (New Zealand) 21 Nick Farr-Jones (Australia) 22 Jonny Wilkinson (England) 23 Jeff Wilson (New Zealnd)

    A few thoughts....
    He picks four Welshmen....

He's just reminding everyone he is actually Welsh.

It's not bad work really, but i reckon he's gone just a little too far. If he had dialed it back by 1 or 2 players he would have snared thousands more

It’s probably about right since he said it’s based on the players he’s seen, which is why there’s no Irish or French players in it.

I mean there’s no Girv the Swerve Dempsey in here ffs!

    Ha.
His justification for picking Campese over Lomu - Lomu was great at his peak, but didn't have the longevity.
Justification for picking Warburton over McCaw/Pocock/Hooper - Warburton didn't have the longevity, but at his peak he was great.
He's not even pretending to be serious any more.

    @taniwharugby

A close-call but Serge edges it for me. Christian Cullen is probably the best attacking player I've ever seen and one of my favourite ever players. Blanco scored 38 Test tries for France, still nearly 28 years after he retired a national record for France. Serge Blanco was the better all round Full back when you include defence, kicking and aerial skills and unlike Cullen performed in the World Cup knockouts for me the pinnacle for judging the best players.

Both were players from Wonderland. Blanco was at his best for a bit longer.

@sparky thanks, really cool seeing some of that old French footage, I'd never seen before. Love their dynamic play.
