@Stargazer I note the April team of the month contains the Marist hooker so maybe he has weighed it all up and decided the Mighty Texans is the place he wants to be! Also noted is the right winger in that team will be missing from the Texans matchday 23.
Incidentally it is the closest club to Napier BHS, being only about 400 yards away, so another good reason.

Watching Tech v Pirates. It's currently 7 nill to Tech, after a good try from Tech's openside.

Thompson just butchered a line-out with a terrible throw, but has otherwise been good in the first minutes.

And now, as I'm writing this, Pirates scored a try. Didn't see the jersey number.

    It's 7 all.

It's now 21 - 7 to Tech in their game against Pirates. It may have been Jayden Stock who scored the third try, but not sure.

And as I write this, Tech right winger scores after a great break. Great conversion.

    28 - 7 Tech

Almost another try to Tech, but the openside (?) knocks on. It was quite a break and I noticed that Thompson could easily keep up with the pace.

Haha, and know he runs like a winger close to the touchline but passes to an opponent. Didn't get much support.

Excellent line-out, break from the Tech fullback, who passes to the right winger to score. This could become a big score. @Higgins will be a happy man. Obviously, I'll expect a detailed report from the match, as he's at the game and has a much better view of what's happening.

    35 - 7 Tech

I've moved to NOBM v Havelock North, where it's 31 - 22 to NOBM, the last NOBM try just being scored by their no. 4.

If it wasn't for the handling errors, Havelock North could have won this. Plenty of possession and territory; hot on attack, but knocking on or throwing a hospital pass when it mattered. Flanders looking very keen and fit. Almost scored another try.

Just this minute back from The Nest where things are ramping up nicely for a big night ahead. Naturally given the time since the ref blew for no side my memory of exact happenings are slightly skewed, even allowing for the fact that there was no draft beer on tap, something that is happening all too often at rugby clubs these days. Did not think DB Export could taste almost acceptable but that has to be weighed against the fact the only other serious choice was Tui!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God I just love the feeling and atmosphere I get the moment I walk into my home club.

Back to the game it was effectively all over within the first 10 to fifteen minutes when my guys showed they were completely on top and looked likely to score almost anytime they won possession and from anywhere on the field. Think it was something like 35 - 07 at halftime and we rolled on abut five subs within minutes of the restart. Naturally the game became a bit more even for about the next 25 minutes as the rollocking Pirates must have got at halftime coupled with the mass changes in the home lineup taking effect.

Tech looked simply a class above in fitness, skills and speed right from the start and used it too good effect right throughout and ran in a couple of nice wide ranging backline tries as they used extra numbers and speed too good effect. We were also helped by Sheridan Rangihuna's pin point goalkicking from out wide making conversions almost a formality.
Notable was the large number of young players dressed in scarlet, the average age of the forward pack was said to be less than about 21 during the aftermatch speeches. The backline was a bit different with a couple of old wise heads offsetting a number of youngsters.

All things considered Pirates did about as well as could be expected given the uncertain start they had prior to the season, they were only promoted to Premier Grade rather late in the piece so did not have the buildup and recruitment opportunities they would normally have had. Had my guys kept up the intensity of the first half right throughout the score could have been over the sixty to seventy point mark. That is wasn't was credit to Pirates.

@Magpie_in_aus Other Texans results were something like
    Reserves 26 - 10 Eskview
Women won over Hastings RSC by a score I can't recall but it was something like about 15 points or so from memory
    Colts had a bye

EDIT: Sorry but forgot to mention that Ayden Clarke still has a massive boot on him, regularly knocking off over 50 metres from his punts. On the other side he is further away from playing 80/80s than I am!.

    @Higgins

Taradale and Tech OB are the only two unbeatan teams after round four.

They meet in round seven on May 28 at Whitmore Park - you'll have to be back for that?
