As far as I know, it has always been played at HBHS.

For fairness I think they now try to alternate who plays at home. That is certainly the situation for the Super 8 teams, i.e., whichever team played at home during the season plays away if they meet again. I do remember watching St John's and Hamilton BHS play at St John's a few years back, but that might have been a game early in the season.

Hamilton BHS has had so few home games this year anyway. Three in the Super 8 and then the SF and final, so only five in total.

I'm not sure that St John's "choked" this year.

I went to the St John's-Feilding game, and they won reasonably convincingly.

I'm sure they did. But I also don't think that was entirely unexpected. I think it would have been a "choke" if the defending holders, who were coming right at the end of the season, had lost.

Did FDMC play NPBHS to decide the Taranaki winner? I'd give FDMC a good chance of winning that.

@Bovidae they played earlier this year and NPBHS won 20-18. I guess this was used to decide the Taranaki representative

Pretty lame way to decide the Auckland 1A semi final between St Kent's & De La Salle. Tied at full time - St Kent's go through as they scored the first try.

In fairness St Kent's haven't lost a game all season but it gives off boundary countback vibes.

They don't play extra time for H&S reasons, and yeah, the first try-scorer is the tie breaker.

I think that Westlake have a very good chance to beat the 1A champ and be the Blues rep at the Top 4.

Can anyone confirm this? On the club rugby website it says that Hamilton Girls' are out of contention for the girls' Top 4 because "Cambridge High School [beat] perennial contenders and former champions Hamilton Girls’ High School 15-10 last week in the Waikato final."

So Cambridge HS will play the Chiefs semi against Wesley on Saturday?

No. Cambridge beat HGHS second XV in the Waikato comp. The Best teams in the Waikato play in the Chiefs Manawa comp which HGHS first XV won. I expect it is HGHS first XV playing Wesley. There could be a case that Cambridge or the second best Waikato team in the Manawa comp (Sacred Heart Hamilton) could have had a play off to decide Waikato's representative.

The post on the NZ Barbarians National 1st XV Championships facebook page says HGHS vs Wesley.

    Chiefs Girls Pathway:
    Semi’s set for 19th August
Rotorua v TGC (tbc) v Scared Heart Girls New Plymouth
    HGHS v Wesley

The news report on the Waikato website didn't state which HGHS team Cambridge played so that would have caused confusion.

@mikedogz Ah, that explains it. I had my doubts after reading that.

I assume it will be RGHS in the semi v Sacred Heart as they beat TGC in round 1 of the Manawa comp? Can't find anything about another (Bay of Plenty) play-off between both schools. They also finished higher on the Manawa table.

@Can-I-Play-too Why does nobody proofread these things?

19th August, boys (2) isn't a BOP Final. Tauranga BC is the BOP final winner. It's a Chiefs semi-final.
    19th August, girls isn't a Waikato Final, it's a Chiefs semi-final.

The winner of the 1A will need to play 3 games in a week - a disadvantage.

St John's were a much bigger team across the park.
