Fuck you Booboo - you said flush the dunny and that's what they've gone and done.

Ioane's dropping is bullshit. Carved up in the first test scoring two crucial tries and then is dropped on his performance in a second test when all the backs were misfiring and we had extenuating circumstances.

Oh well, I hope that Fatty is going to have the big game his fluffers promise he still has in him. Go the Bus!

My thoughts on J Barrett haven't changed from earlier in the thread. Nothing I've seen from him this year for the Canes suggests AB starting fullback. Hell, even his good Super form was early in the season before he plateaued. If Fatty was brought in for experience then just keep Dagg at the back. He might miss a one on one tackle on a 120kg Tongan Welsh number 8 from 5 metres out but then again Super form suggest Barrett will as well.

I like Laumape, would have preferred Fekitoa, but think Laumape will do the job with the confidence of a test already under his belt.

Hopefully our forwards to the damage up front so that we're less reliant on our backs.

I have gone from being quietly confident of an easy AB victory, to seeing that back 3 and now feeling nervous.

JB might struggle with cover defence, but I would have backed him to take down that Ton..er Welsh fatty one on one.

That's assuming he wobbled over there in time. πŸ˜‰

Just joking, but it would be good if he found some BB like speed just before the kick off.

These selections have me fizzing even more for this test. They remind me of experimental things we do against 'lesser' teams rather than against the biggest game out side WC finals matches.

Adds to the intrigue of this match! Can't wait.

Thank goodness our forwards are more settled.

@SammyC I know that, but 'normally' we have 15 on the field, so 15 v 14/15, we make that tackle before it gets to where Dagg is.

I just finished reading TP McLeans book about the 1977 lions tour... he stated that the number 1 requirement for a fullback was to be rock solid in defense. Colin Farrell was no Fergie apparently!

isn't this what people have been moaning about the last, what 6 or so years, barely any selection headaches, so little discussion around the squad, so many automatic selections, and now we have all that, people are worried...

The unknown is what makes sports so great, I guess as AB fans we have been lucky that the unknown is relatively, well unknown to us, so going into a test match on edge with a the chance of not only losing our first series in what seems like forever (cant think of the last one, was it France?) back to back tests since 2004 (I think) and that long standing record at EP, IT'S ALL ON.

Wondering if Jordie has been selected partly because Dagg was god damn shit at full-back last week?????

Cut Dagg some slack. He made the tackle assist with BB on left touch then sprinted across entire width of field and was only man out on right flank when Lions moved it back. Above and beyond?

It will be won up front. I thought the Maori backline would show their skills but were shut down due to the forwards being dominated. This Lions team can defend and defend well, I can't see this game being decided by the backline.

The backline just needs to limit errors, tackle well and take the dam high ball.

Our scrum has been excellent so far however the lineout has stuttered at times. If we win our set piece, dominate the ruck aka first test and put pressure on the Lions I am confident the backs will take advantage of any opportunities.

                                    Feel bad for Rieko Ioane.
Wondering if Jordie has been selected partly because Dagg was god damn shit at full-back last week?????

I understand that Naholo suffered concussion-related symptoms during training, so he couldn't start on the wing.

well on any other day, we have 15 on the field and the tackle is made before Dagg gets to miss it πŸ˜‰

You could argue that the fb is never at fault because he only has to make tackles when the people in front miss them πŸ˜‰

Cut Dagg some slack. He made the tackle assist with BB on left touch then sprinted across entire width of field and was only man out on right flank when Lions moved it back. Above and beyond?

That wasn't criticism of Dagg in particular.

It's madness and even A Smith and Dagg have some latent Canes genes that could easily come to the fore immersed in that mix. Our only hope is that Lienert-Brown remembers his inherent Cantabness and holds these fools together - or that they've called in Hammer to give out brain infusions. πŸ™‚

On the more serious side, most people would have been picking something like Smith, Barrett, ALB, Savea, Dagg before the first test - and before the squad was selected, a bench of Perenara, Cruden, Fekitoa wouldn't have been a surprise - so it's really only Laumape and Jordie who are substantial changes from a "traditional" (ie last couple of years) match-day 23. We will definitely miss Ben Smith, but we were already doing that last week.

We just have to hope that the two new boys are significantly better than last week's 25 minutes of SBW and 80 minutes of Rieko (hopefully along with bonus of getting an extra half hour of Kaino).

You'd hope they can do that - though personally I probably would have started an ALB-Fekitoa combination. If they can avoid serious mistakes, we'll probably win, though it's far from guaranteed. I'd rather Auckland turn on a fine night.

Aside from this, I'm hoping to see our forwards come out and make the sort of statement they did vs Oz in the RWC final.

The two out and out wingers have cost the ABs in the last two games so I can absolutely see the logic of bringing Jordie in. Iaone did pretty much nothing in the last game, I can barely remember him playing, except when he almost made a hash of the cross kick. I felt Savea deservedly lost his place but under the circumstances his recall made sense as does Fekitoas though he really should have been in the squat from day 1. Naholo ran hard but was completely unreliable fielding kicks.

At this stage of Reikos career , exciting in attack , but he may have a bit of downhill in him , didn't quite know how to inject himself when things werent going our way ,that may come later , with more rain forecast , jules is probably better suited to rolling the sleeves up and contributing to cart the ball over the advantage line .
                                          My opinion anyway .
