Midi Olympique are reporting that Owen Farrell has signed a 2 year deal with Racing 92 from the summer. Farrell has already made himself unavailable for the 6 Nations and the summer tour.

So England will need to find a new captain. George Ford should be their main 10.

Racing 92 have come out and said there's no deal, but certainly leaves the doors open for still under negotiation

@Machpants Lots of other newspapers are reporting that Owen Farrell is in advanced talks with Racing 92. Midi Olympique jumped the gun by saying that he had already signed with the French club.

Ex-England coach Stuart Lancaster is Coach of Racing 92 so it makes a lot of sense, Owen Farrell going there.

Yup that was my point, they very specifically said there was no deal. Doesn't mean that they're just about to sign him

Apparently ladies lions is getting close to a go, for to NZ first. Problem is it will basically be England. Maybe it should morph into NH v SH, Ozzie and SA would get smashed unless there is big improvements, possible I guess.

I see the NZ press has picked up on a couple of Telegraph articles about Ethan Roots

Apparently he's a decent chance of making the England 6N squad?

                  @Duluth

I’m not sure how he went at the Ospreys but he’s been good for Exeter, one of those back rows that is just a complete nuisance all over the park. 6 though is a position of strength for England, so there’d be a few ahead of him in the queue.

@Machpants depends on what position, I was assuming wide receiver or similar but does the article state otherwise?

Apparently this guy is one of the best the last couple of years. I'd say LRZ is probably bigger than him.

@Machpants it's a much more open game than it was even 10 years ago and definitely 20 years ago.

The rules benefit space and speed on offense so the game is far more tailored to that (and subsequently the players on defence that can defend that).

The best wide receiver in the league is 178cm tall and 87kg.

The best rookie wide receiver has similar frame to LRZ (188cm, 93Kg).

A lot of lessons rugby can take from that - which has gone the opposite way.

Having said that - it's going to be awfully tough for LRZ - they have designated international roster spots so he can hang around but making a team's official 53 man squad and then staying there for any length of time is an enormous ask. Good luck to him.

@mariner4life Third largest population on Earth with highest (by some margin) reward for being the best. Their sprinters are technically superb too - one only has to look at the times they set in combine for the 40 yard.

Once on a trip to America while in the Army we had a "sports day". 4 x ~200m race and we're winning by miles into the last league. Their anchor just missed Olympic selection so joined the Army. I swear it looked like he was 50m behind at the start of his run and won by 30m.

High level rugby players are some of the best all-round athletes on the planet. They carry bulk, need power and strength, have endurance, and are quick.

NFL athletes are in their position because they are physically perfect for that one specific aspect of the game. Jack of all trades athletes have no place in that alpha sport.

Agree totally. The other thing against him is that top level NFL they really focus on certain things and as soon as you don't deliver, you're 100% off everybody's radar.

I think there’s a far bigger play here

LRZ tries to make the NFL

Gets on to a team like Wade did, a few highlights in pre-season matches but ultimately fails - gallantly- in his endeavour.

Signs for Major League Rugby as one of the few overseas players in the league in their prime.

Becomes poster boy for the league with huge US recognition.

Has a stormer of a season or two and shows he’s not bad after all.

Qualifies on residency to represent the US and becomes the poster boy for the 2031 RWC in the US of A

I'm sure you're being facetious but regardless, LRZ can't qualify for the USA through residency because he's already played for Wales. You can only switch countries through birth place or ancestry.
