    Well done England.

England did what they needed to do, and at times looked very impressive doing it.

Extra week off certainly helped with fitnes and perfecting their game plan.

Will be interesting to see how they go when / if the pack are going backwards.

It's a bit of weird one, this match. England didn't really have to do much, outside of defending very well, to win. I had been of the view that, if England won this match, the Cup was theirs to lose.

But, if they let Ireland, the All Blacks, Wales or RSA have that much ball and that many opportunities with it, they'll get beaten and probably quite well. I think, like most teams, they'll be looking for a massive improvement in the semi-final (whoever they end up playing).

I hate how they carry on about trivial shit like they just lifted the fucking cup. Reminds me of Rob Andrew and his victory lap after drawing with us at twickers

Sorry for being percy pedantic but it's rather important if we're going to honestly acknowledge that england are indeed a bunch of dicks:

*3. England did a lap of honour after drawing with the All Blacks at Twickers in 1997

      A classic memory trickster.
The cringe-inducing celebration occurred at the previous test, a record home defeat by 25-8 at Old Trafford in Manchester. As the story/excuse goes, the "victory" lap was a PR exercise at a soccer ground in the northwest, where league rules over rugby.*

Fuck me, that old victory lap schtick never gets old, on here does it? Except that it was indeed a thank you to the fans.

As for today, England took their chances well, and defended well, with Farrell kicking 100%. Add in a couple of Beale brainfarts and that's the game. Even just a couple of seasons ago they would have ballsed up the first try, but they took it clinically.

The only thing I’ll say on that is confidence is a funny ol’ thing. The fact they were able to put 40 on the Wallabies is nothing to sneeze at. England aren’t really known for putting big scores like that on tier 1 sides, but they did tonight. That will give them a real shot in the arm going into a semi.

          England deserved winners.
Thought Aussie had a chance, but the Poms look well drilled, calm and professional. Took just about every opportunity that came their way today.

The critical part of that game was when Aussie closed the gap to 1 point, and then completely went off the boil and gave up 10 points in quick succession. Credit to England there, it was game on and they immediately responded and shut the door.

England are not the most talented team ever, particularly in the backs, but they're well coached and have a clear game plan that the whole team is buying into which is making them very effective; especially when it comes to closing out games.

That final score is a hiding in knockout rugby.

Sinckler try was the crucial play of the game. Aussie were right in it after their try but they let England in easily. Not sure who's fault it was.

The Australian 5m scrum in attack was the moment I think they sunk Naisarani one off run from 8 from the 1980s. Surely it came out the wrong channel and he just reacted?

Australia self destructed under the pressure, but if we get through tonight, next week is 50-50 for us at best. I was very impressed

The inconvenient scoreline was the following week with that draw. If Goldie had been penalised for holding onto the ball right on front of his posts, England could have held on to win, and I would have had a great "I was there" moment to crow about. But on the other hand I've enjoyed 22 years of pedalling " we was robbed" to anyone who'll listen, so it's swings and roundabouts

Hoiles has turned in to a very good presenter. Other panellists trying to say you can't blame the wallabies for what happened today, and he was straight back with they were beaten by plan and execution. He's not giving anyone a free pass

Just astonishing that any coach would select a player that so obviously tales time and space away from his team. Especially if you want to start with urgency.

Marsh "Thanks boss, we only get an orange at QPR".

Genia was fucking shit this RWC. Has been ever since he got back from France bar a couple of games where he looked better than shit

Just astonishing that any coach would select a player that so obviously tales time and space away from his team. Especially if you want to start with urgency.

That word coach is used pretty loosely.

If Aus were coached they'd probably win this world cup. Helluva talented team.

Reminds me of the Rodney Marsh quote from his England debut:-

Alf Ramsey "Rodney, I'm going to have to pull you off at half time"

Marsh "Thanks boss, we only get an orange at QPR".

Good old Rodney, he and Stan Bowles made me proud to be a Hoops fan as a kid.

Having said no punchlines necessary, I belatedly thought of a caption for that video: "Unblocking the Sinck?" L'espirit d'escalier, I think our French chums would call that.

Why is Englands game plan devoid of usingb2 of their weapons: Watson and Tuilagi? The latter was pretty much anonymous for most of the game.

I think Krusty should really stay away from the media for a while. They played "quite well" ffs
