    @hydro11 Sommerville is good with the bat.

    Santner's FC average is 30, Someville averages 18. Somerville is 35 and has never hit a FC 50 (although he does have one good innings for NZ). Not in the same class as Santner and not really good enough to bat 8.

    @hydro11 But no 8 needs to bowl. Especially in our team.

      @hydro11 if Santner can't tie up an end with the ball, he's a specialist batsman at 8. Why are we picking him at 8 instead of finding a middle order batsman who can roll the arm over?

      I don't think there really is such a player domestically. Our spin bowling batting all-rounders is probably limited to George Worker unless I am forgetting someone obvious. Santner does have a career economy rate of 2.75 in tests so it's not like he is regularly getting pasted.

      Doesn't have to be a spinner - if Santner's not taking wickets, it can be anything.

      Jimmy Neesham?

      But his economy rate is 3.47 domestically. He isn't a 5th seamer in that he is a guy to toss the ball to just to bowl overs. Neesham is better with the newer ball. Anderson would be a better 5th seamer.

      @hydro11 Corey Anderson?

      I don't think he's bowling anymore and seems only to be playing short forms.

      The Aussies have lost 9 for 143. ๐Ÿ™‚

            TBH, how hard the bowlers are fighting just makes me even more pissed at the batsmen.

              @Mokey the bowlers have bowled with one short in the first test, without a spinning option, backed up from some short batting innings. Big effort. They lack the strike power of the Aussies but have bowled to their plans well.

                    To think, they've kept Bradman II quiet and are still going to get the 2 biggest consecutive hidings in our history.

                    What a waste.

                      If our batsmen got to face our bowlers we'd score 400+ easily.

                      Similarly if the Aussie batsmen had to face their bowlers they'd probably be rolled for under 200.

                                He reached 200 test wickets today, and is apparently the only bowler with 200+ test wickets to have debuted since the first ODI, not to have taken at least one ODI wicket.

                                        I think the most disappointing thing is that we've been undone by ourselves. A lack of patience and too many loose shots at key moments. The difference between us has been that the Aussie batsmen happily left anything not threatening alone and took what they could get. Our top 4 all went to soft shots at balls easily left. I think the combination of the occasion, the scoreboard pressure and a high quality bowling attack did that.

                                        Also, although our bowlers performed okay (excellently in the case of Wags) I feel like we never bowled in partnerships so although we had individual bowlers looking threatening from time to time, we never managed to exert consistent pressure at both ends.
