    @Nepia Well, no-one is a clone...

They were wing-fullbacks - as opposed to power wingers or out-and-out speedsters.

They're the two who are as close to Bridge in my mind, as anyone.

It’s just weird to pick such good attacking players to compare him against. Guildford was a wing fullback too, worked hard like Bridge and had excellent pace.

I wouldn’t say either beat people with footwork, so a better comparison than Jane or Dagg.

Yeah, Guildford is probably closer. They're both great if put in space and they're both good at getting in positions to put in space.

Last year I wanted Bridge to be our right wing/fullback style dude but they picked him to replace our attacking left wing.

@Nepia I have Zac as a different sort of wing - and actually more like Doug Howlett! 🙂

Rieko is part of the reason that RWC 2019 caught us at a low ebb.

He had injury problems, but regardless - in the games he played subsequent to Perth, he never showed sufficient form to displace George.

At anything like his peak the door never would have opened.

      WTF???

Put Jordie at 15 and Caleb Clarke on the wing.
      D Mac on the bench.

That would make sense BUT obviously both Bridge and Clarke are primarily left wingers.

The flakiest player in NZ who shouldn't be anywhere near the 46 gets a start lol.

No more talk of an all white back 3 now as Dmac is Māori.

How in the sweet fuck does DMac get a start? He shouldn't even be in the squad ffs.

Foster is obsessed with experience for this game.
Must also have something to do with the two playmaker tactic

He probably doesn't meet the safe criteria either, but then neither does JB.

                  Mixed races erratic back three.

@DMX true regarding Jordie, but it looks like he ate Aaron Smith during the off season and the weight not only added confidence but also made more effective tackles and breaks... opinion of course but Jordie looks different this year.

Yeah - I read an article that he consciously bulked up in the off season. Added six or seven kgs.

He also went up a level in his play with the Hurricanes. Became one of their go to guys.

He might make a mistake tomorrow, but I think that will be an anomaly now (like Ben Smith getting binned in the RWC Final), rather than any indication that he's not ready for this level.

I think my only slight concerns would be that he probably doesn't have the out and out gas of a wing and that he hasn't played there much.

Overall, I reckon he's less likely to make a bad error than a debuting Will Jordan or an adventurous Sevu Reece, but in the longer run he's probably less likely to create magic quite as often either.

So, I hope this is a matter of Fozzie being desperate to win his first outing, rather than any sort of fixture - and if it is (with Beaudy as their first choice fullback), it certainly begs the question of why they haven't got Josh Ioane in the squad

My 2 cents is that tonight is a signal that Mo’unga is going to get the starts at 10 this season and barring major catastrophe this will continue with Barrett going for a sabbatical next year that may impact on test footy (whatever that looks like) next year.

Josh’s inclusion would be surplus right now. Tough call but with Mo’unga and Barrett and in an emergency DMac and Jordie available I’d say they’ve got things covered.

With this new combo I think we will see DMac and JB both spend time covering deep at fullback.

TAB punters don't seem to have minded this news.

When I looked earlier today, I think we were something like $1.13 to $5.80 to win (Oz was under $6 at any rate).

                        Now, we're $1.08 to $6.70.

I've decided to place an insurance bet!

I’m surprised that they don’t seem to see Jordie as second playmaker - really they’ve got three out there. It’s a strange replacement .

And if both Clarke and Bridge are only 11s, that also means that we don’t have right wing cover on the bench or in the team, so one or both of them are covering 14.

I’d have put Clarke in and switched Bridge over, with Dmac to the bench (as they need 10 cover). Feel a bit sorry for Joane who should have been there from the start and could have got a bench role here.

@NTA When I was at Uni in the 90's the local pub had the special, mind you I think it was the NPC from memory. But the pub no doubt made their money after the game when all the punters got off the bus and continued drinking.

Fucking hell the "Foster year(s)" are going to be fun. When I heard the news I thought well at least Jordie will be in his rightful position and Clarke will start. But no of course not, we have to bring in DMac, in the worst form of his life, from outside the 23 to start. Duh.

Jordie isn't a wing at all. Makes far more sense to swap Bridge across.

@No-Quarter or Reece in. It's not like Jordie hasn't been doing second playmaker from 15 all season for the canes. Maybe it's a THREE playmaker system now!

Why not Will Jordan at 14 and Jordie Barrett at 15??
D Mac can be on the bench (at best)

Coaches are always reluctant to make too many positional changes because of one withdrawal. Reece to the right wing would have been the obvious choice.

My Reese suggestion is because at least he had experience, for a late change and foster seems dead set on experience. I'd prefer Jordan, or Clark, or Dane Coles on the wing over DMac in the squad
