@kirwan You have an excellent ability to misread posts and/or twist words. I've got to give that to you. Well done!

I think you are stuck in a hypocrisy loop again.

People are allowed to disagree with people's opinions - even yours!

I disagree that Sotutu had a quiet season, he certainly did enough to make the All Blacks for example. Now in case you get confused again, that's my opinion.

Sotutu hasn't had a quiet season. Was outstanding in Super Rugby, got leap-frogged by Jacobson/Blackadder but it's a highly competitive loose combo. His appearances since have been v.good.

Outstanding in lineout, off back of scrum and probably best passer. Ought to be excellent in combo with big hitting 6. Paps/Aioane/Hoskins has good balance.

All three being ... wait for it .... from a particular province.

That's not "good balance". Unless you live in Auckland.

Looks better than Princep/Kirifi/Savea though and I say that as a proud native of the nations capital.

How disappointed was I when you raised canes loosies and completely ignored Fifita.

Might have been his best game in black. He did everything that was asked of him and more, without the brain farts that have plagued him in the past

I'm going to allow myself a farking great portion of smug satisfaction. His class was always there but for whatever reason some were willing to write him off age 19. It just goes to show that players mature, develop and improve. Writing anyone off that young is simply idiotic.

It's particularly ironic that of the 2 players who were written off as "shit" very young, one is now the captain and the other played a blinder and saved the game last week.

I think generally , we( the public ) go too early writing young players off ,

Nonu was probably the one that stands out the most for me , man didnt he prove some people wrong

Conversely there’s also a tendency to hype a young player too early because he does one or two things that we the public might like.

One example for me was I really rated Angus MacDonald. To me he had long term All Black written all over him when I saw him play as a 20 year old and then in 03-04 for the Blues. He made the ABs in 05 and I thought he was our versatile lock/blindside for the bench for years to come. I even said on here that I thought he could be a leader in the ABs.

          He played two tests.

And of course, how could we forget Ice.... 🎣

I think he's a difficult one because at that time there were so many other good players in all the positions he could play in. At 12 you had Mauger and McAllister. At 13 you had Conrad. There were about 100 good players on the wing, and at fullback you had Mils. Trying to fit him in somewhere was a problem. I reckon if he'd been around now he'd be straight in there.

He was brilliant at 15 in his first super season with the Canes. It is well documented that he was thrown into the ABs very quickly. A few seasons at full back might have helped him ease in

He was a big reason why Fa'atau was the top try scorer in Super Rugby that season.

          alt text

Great job by snake to find him, and a beautiful line by Ice. He should never have gone back to Auckland. Stay and complete his apprenticeship with Nonu, Smith and Co

Noticed how the AB forwards swarmed against Wales. Multiple pick up and goes, off rapid and effective cleans. Made yards, and as important doesn’t allow defensive line to set.

              I loved it!

lots of records will be set this year by the 2021 ABs:
                https://www.allblacks.com/news/all-blacks-close-in-on-all-time-try-scoring-record/

Their 89 tries scored to date are only three behind the world record of 92 tries scored by Argentina in 2003.

Should the All Blacks score another 12 tries on the tour, their 101 tries would break the world record average tries per Test set by the World Cup-winning 1987 All Blacks of 6.71 tries per game.

If they score another 31 points on the tour they will break the record for most points in a calendar year. That is 658, set by South Africa in 2007 when they played 17 Tests en route to their Rugby World Cup win.

Should they convert three more tries in 2021 they will break the world record for most Test conversions in a calendar year. That stands at 62 by South Africa in 2007.

Yeah, I wish we had a different coach and played badly, at least we'd have different coach..

I'm not a fan of these volume based records ... schedule three extra tests against Namibia, Georgia and Cook Islands and you'll smash these numbers. But you won't be a better rugby team.

This team has deep flaws. SA exposed them. Aus almost exposed them. our forwards are still the big question mark for me; good forwards and a rush defence = potential to beat the ABs

I'm not a huge fan either. But if they exist ABs should be at the top of them when it comes to tries and points!

For next year, we need a specialist 13 at 13. If Goodhue is back to his best, he is a lock as starting 13. I think ALB is a better 13 than 12, which is unfortunate. So he'd be my bench option covering 12 and 13. We haven't seen enough of Tupaea, but he looks promising. Reiko can play 11 with emergency centre cover. Havili can be retained as a squad member who covers a lot of positions but his last few matches have been pretty dreadful as a 12 in any case. His best position is probably 15, but he's not better than Jordie.

The Irish will bring Aki, Henshaw and Ringrose, who are all good midfielders, so it will be a decent challenge.

This article basically sums up what I've stated previously.

Razor's hugely innovative systems get the most out of relatively limited players - Foster then takes these same limited players & substitutes them directly into his (much less effective..) systems and people wonder why it doesn't exactly work out seamlessly.

I sort of agree. But there have been plenty of “power” backs who are just average rugby players and they too get found out at the top level.

I've never thought of Goodhue as an undersized midfielder

Peter Umaga Jensen should have been picked despite an average Super rugby season.

I believe Hansen did that several times with players he deemed to be good fits for the ABs.

                                          There's still time.
