    CdG

He bowled just fine in the first innings, held up an end and kept the run rate pressure on for most of his spell. Not the reason we're there, but he did bowl 12 reasonably important overs. More useful than a spinner I reckon, and had upside potential for fast runs or wickets.

I'd still have picked Young I reckon, but that leaves overs to be bowled and the risk of cooking your bowling unit

Not having a crack at him, just pointing out that for all of our debate it mattered very little who got that last spot.

Whoever it was was gonna be a relative placeholder. I’m a fan of Young but that last spots needs to go to someone who can bowl a few overs……that’s why the argument came down to CDGH, Santner or Mitch, none of whom are gonna scare a decent side.

Luckily for us we have 10 others who are all varying degrees of bloody excellent.

What a way to go out though. Part of me wonders if Rossco is next ?

I assumed that Roscoe wants to slip out quietly and wanted the focus to be on BJ

Athers was grilling Doull on this. Doull reckons that Rosco still has the hunger. In addition, he reckons as a family man, Taylor would want go out at home with his family there.

I think he is on the record saying he wants to play to the next world Cup in the shorter format. Obviously that can change (the tournament is now six months later than when he said that) and it is hard to see him at 39 full time in both formats.

He might also have a few goals left from Crowe like 20 test centuries? My guess is he maybe plays the home summer and then reassess it?

His spot is seemingly safe in the sense that BJ retiring gets Blundell in, and I'd say Nicholls is next on the chopping block if someone were to be dropped.

Oh we comfortably won on boundaries too, 42-38. Never in doubt.

The Blues win a Super Rugby trophy, the Black Caps a Cricket World Cup.

I thought I saw him interviewed during the test saying that if we'd won the CWC in England he probably would have retired. Might have misheard though

After decades of supporting NZ cricket sides through thick and even thicker these last few years have been revelatory.

So pleased for the team to have a tangible trophy to solidify their reputation as NZ's greatest ever side.

On and off the field they make you proud to be a supporter. They epitomise everything that we like to think is good about the Kiwi psyche. Humble, hard working, sense of humour, determined and clearly a bunch of mates digging deep for each other. Was great to see when the dressing room erupted that the whole squad were all involved.

Lot's of previous cricketers for NZ and a few sides have also played above themselves - this one has had the advantage of consistent selection and more than a few world class players. No more the plucky losers that the rest of the world can condescendingly look down on - WE ARE THE FUCKING WORLD CHAMPIONS!

Great match in the world. Full dues too to the Indian's for contributing in full with skill and spirit to what has been a momentous occasion for NZ.

@dogmeat I'd love for Kane to do a skit with the ACC and sit there polishing that cup and talking about how people think we are too nice and meek to be winners.

Is that a little sawdust in my eye? Martin Crowe in 2015 imaging Kane Williamson steering NZ home to win a Cricket World Cup.

                        Yes, finally!

Manufactured a win inside 4 days with skill, strategy and faith in each other.

An indisputable performance. So happy for the fellas.

Got through the whole day with 2am coffees and lots of pacing around.

Foxtel ditched the coverage immediately before the team handshakes, I crashed and awoke thinking of a dream I might've had.

                        No dream!

Kane, my MoM. Batting and captaincy. But then he would have given it to Kyle anyway🙂

                        Fairytale finish

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my wife's snoring for honking like a goose and telling me to get up and watch the cricket at 30 odd for 2. Actually it was at 30 for 0 when it woke me up, 30 odd for 2 when I decided t get up. Clearly I needed to get down to the lounge to stop the rot.

I can't take all the credit though, Earlier I had given up in a flounce when Southee dropped Pant. I'm a very bad watcher of tense NZ cricket, not used to high stakes as a fan.

Delighted this team have won a big trophy to cap off this generation's achievements of the last 7 to 8 years.

I still feel it will be generational thing rather than a step-change that NZ will now always produce good players, so very important that we took one of the chances this generation's teams have worked themselves into positions to final in. Will make subsequent finals a little less daunting for this generation and those to follow.

India will get a lot more chances, I'd expect them to be in the final again in 2 years. Let alone various ICC ball tournaments.

But commiserations to them, as Virat loves test cricket, I feel they are currently a force for good.

i would like to start this presentation by acknowledging Tim Paine

Tim, i am going to bend over, you get on your knees, lean forward, and suck a fart directly from my ass. And then turn your head, and with that fart in your mouth, pash Mark Nicholas. And you two just share that fart between you.

All the haters, the doubters, the there-by-default, vaguaries-of-the-draw piston wristed gibbons can get on their knees and choke on a hard piece of kiwi glory

Because right now, we are the best cricketing nation on earth. We won your fucking test tournament. We had the ODI World Cup stolen off us, and oh look, in the hit and giggle stuff we are top 3 as well. You keep disrespecting us, you keep giving us 2 test "tours" at the start or end of the summer. you keep deluding yourself that India, England and Australia deserve to be somewhere we are not. None of that matters, because, as the old saying goes, runs on the board matter. And we have considerably more than you.

Fuck the shits and giggle 50 over stuff of 2019. This is, and will always be, the most important version of the game…..and guess what ?

We’re officially the best. God damn I’m proud of what these guys have just done.

I will never forget 2019 and I’m sure the team won’t either. But this has gone some way to exorcising those demons

Funnily enough, I have no demons at all about that.

I've simply refused to concede that we lost a Cricket World Cup to book-keeping. 🙂

This still makes me a bit sad though

What a way to go out though. Part of me wonders if Rossco is next ?

I want him to retire in front of a home crowd with his family present.

It will be hard to top going out like this
