have to say, when i was at uni in dunners most people that used their diversions did so for things like taking a piss somewhere a little too public or in one case nicking all the pool balls from a pub, maybe pinching a road sign...not so much fighting let alone hitting a woman

Yep, all my mates who have got diversion have been for stuff like this. One of them got it for actually pissing on a paddy wagon, the dumb shit.

Strange huh....I didn't even know you could use it for anything other than weed possession
So anyway you'd think as they've taken this long to lay charges that they're pretty confident.

Agree with @Duluth about the uncertainty and severity of the crime. Also agree that he should get some time off and the superior player Robinson should replace him!
