Midfield is going to be really interesting, especially with Jordie Barrett throwing his hat into the ring. Tupaea appears to have second season syndrome, and has struggled on defence. Goodhue is overcoming his second combination ACL/MCL rupture, but it will be interesting to see how he goes by playoffs time. Ennor is well below international level as a centre.

    Certainties:

    Ioane
    ALB (injured?)

    12 options:

    Tupaea
    Havili
    RTS
    J Barrett
    Goodhue
(Umaga-Jensens need more game time to be considered)

    13 options:

    Fainga'anuku
    Goodhue
(PUJ needs more game time to be considered)

We could see a back line such as the following at some stage this year, which would be interesting:

    9 Smith
    10 B Barrett
    11 Clarke
    12 J Barrett
    13 R Ioane
    14 Reece
    15 Jordan

Gregor Paul suggests an AB backline:

A back three of Havili, Will Jordan and Caleb Clarke, a midfield of Jordie Barrett and Rieko Ioane, with Aaron Smith and Beauden Barrett as playmakers and the All Blacks may have their deadliest backline in years.

@Rancid-Schnitzel you better get the tissues ready before reading this !!!!!

I've barely watched a minute of rugby this year but now I'm ready to get back into the game! Fůck I'm ahead of the curve. When JB leads us to RWC glory next year at 12 all the naysayers can go root a giraffe.

I still remember his play in the last Lions tour, his distribution was excellent

He was probably the best player on the park and he was only 19. Yet there were still people desperate to write him off.

He put a try on a plate for Julian S, but he shelled it. That was the series win right then and there

@chris Interesting team. Have heard something about Lord needing to get back into line quicker after tackles and carries. Looks to have some real ability to impact the game though.

Fainga'anuku is a real talent. Should have been in the ABs last year for some game time.

Wonder if Clarke can cover centre. Has done so for Marist, but may lack some vision? Defence is good.

LF could also cover centre in that team,
Clarke adds another impact player from the bench.

No, I still like ALB but I like the idea of game breakers in the Backline.
To put ALB in I would have to put Ioane back on the wing, and I like Leicester in there with Clarke as a line breaker to bring on latter.Although I would be happy to swap Leicester and Reiko and have them the other way around.
ALB would be next if There was a injury or loss of form.

Interesting the below quote is this Schmidt’s role.

“I wonder whether they maybe need someone in from the outside, just asking those other questions. Because the game does evolve, the game in the northern hemisphere has evolved, as will the game in the southern hemisphere. I think it’s critical: top quality people.

Unfortunately for reasons known to no-one other than rugby coaches, Leicester will miss out to Ennor.

So, no ALB in your team ?

No, I still like ALB but I like the idea of game breakers in the Backline.
To put ALB in I would have to put Ioane back on the wing, and I like Leicester in there with Clarke as a line breaker to bring on latter.Although I would be happy to swap Leicester and Reiko and have them the other way around.
ALB would be next if There was a injury or loss of form.

ALB is a world-class midfielder. I wouldn't drop him just to put Reiko, who's still pretty green at 13, together with a winger untested at international level .

Got to try new players sometime Leicester deserves a chance IMO.

If he carries on the same vein of form we saw on Saturday, I wouldn't mind seeing Julian Savea on the right wing. My backline (on latest form) :

Smith - Barrett - LF (or Clarke) - Barrett - Ioane - Savea - Jordan.

I am liking Jodie at 12. I have a number of reasons. First, he is very physical and seems to know the defense nuances at 12. Second, his usual one brain explosion per game can be covered at 12 much easier at 12 than 15. As well, we have one of the premium attacking players at 15 (Jordan) who is a very accurate player. In addition, B. Barrett plays much better with a big physical 12 to straighten if things go south and they know each other well :face_with_monocle:

Oh he's definitely got his upsides! Just not sure accuracy is one of them...this is the same guy you could count on last season for 2-3 handling errors a game and the occasional wayward chip/kick? Not to mention linking....

Because in Test footy against the likes of Ireland, you don't drop one of your best 4-5 players to give a slot to someone who might deserve a chance.

Stick Leciester in the 23 by all means to give him a run, but don't build the backline around a inexperienced winger.
