Most of the blame for this can be placed on Flemings shoulders

yeah but putting Crowe in there (17 centuries / 18 50s) with Fleming (9 centuries / 46 50s) is surely taking the piss!

He's only 2 away from having the same as Crowe and Taylor combined (who have second and third most).

Can do the same exercise with Hadlee and 5-fers.

Fleming was a better player than the conversion rate would indicate.

But yes, you have a point

And played 86 tests compared to their combined 220 tests (113/107 respectively). Also bowled in 150 innings compared to their combined 377 innings (174/203 respectively).

Just wanted to have another bitch about our schedule this summer. Our last game against Sri Lanka is the 3rd ODI on 11th January, then there is zero Black Caps game until 8th February, when we play Pakistan in fucking Pakistan?! Then that is followed by the Champions Trophy between 19th February and 9th March. Then finally, on 16th March, we get some international cricket in NZ with Pakistan touring.

So between 11th January and 16th March, I.E. the NZ summer, we have zero international cricket being played in NZ.

                Fucking absurd.

So Santner is now officially the white ball captain. Maybe I'm missing someone but feels like about the only realistic contender once you rule out Kane and Latham, since I'm not sure there's anyone else who is both a guaranteed selection and ready to be captain.

Has a cricketer ever as maligned as Santner ever had a turnaround like he has ?

Is the ICC Champions Trophy in Feb.

Don't usually have an ICC tournament in our summer, unless we are actually co-hosting it.

Having an ICC tournament every year is what makes the ICC so much money. And constitutes more than 50% of NZC revenue.

And NZC is quite rich. Comparatively.

Unrelated factoids I read about today.

There are 4 instances of a test team made of entirely 30+ year olds. 3 of them are the black caps in the last 12ish months.

There are two additional instance of a team with no one in their twenties - the last two Australia-India tests where they had ten 30 year olds and a teenager.

The whole 'nz test team is getting old' thing has been floating around for a little while now, but that stat really reinforces how usually dependent on oldies we are.

Jamieson now falls into the 30+ year old category.

For all the talk of bigger bats, smaller boundaries and how batting averages are higher on the whole these days this still reinforces how rare a 50 plus test average actually is. Given you can discount Voges for a short career plundering an awful Windies team and Brook still being early in his career that doesn’t leave many. Hats off to all legends who can maintain one !

@MN5 Absolutely agree - time can give runs and 50s/100s to some degree (still need some level of quality to get selected and score runs, 50s and 100s), but it's very hard for top order batters to pad averages in the really long run.

To add to the "Big 4" debate, for the past decade, percentage of innings where the batsman reached 50.
                                    Kane 41%
                                    Smith 37.8%
                                    Root 37.4%
                                    Kohli 27.5%

                                    And to reach 100
                                    Kane 21.4%
                                    Smith 17.3%
                                    Kohli 13.7%
                                    Root 13%

Babar and Kohli are the biggest myths in this world. Kane is criminally under appreciated globally

                                        pffft haha what?

A guy that scores an ODI hundred every 5 and a half innings is a myth? he's probably the best 50-over batsman of all time.
His test record is not "all time great" but he still averages 48 and has 30 test hundreds. More importantly than the numbers, his attitude is what dragged this Indian team forward to a side that could win anywhere. How many players go to Australia, play four test matches, score 4 hundreds, and average 86?

He's definitely on the downhill slide out of the test arena, but lets not overdo it aye?

Plus I see little evidence of Kane being underappreciated so wrong on both counts
