Really happy to see Ioane back at 6. He really has the potential to be the greatest ever in that position. Even better than Kaino.

Reiko is also one game off from being the next Conrad Smith.

I remember when Danny Lee came on .. we were like this guy is seriously average, thats the game completely fucked. Then he scored.

Ardie keeps trying to replicate Lee’s dummy

Jeez I wish Aaron Smith would try this 2-3 times per game...

Especially considering our looser, loosies named for Saturday.. Either AI or HS would be be great running off his shoulder on those we darts too.

@Mattasaurus his ability to hit a man through traffic is outstanding, but he needs to vary his game as he makes us too easy to defend.

Am I missing a joke here?
Maybe Akira can get somewhere near Kaino if he stops taking half a step backwards before going forward.

look i was being very tongue in cheek

but (and this links to the "current state of the game" thread)

A little over a week after a fantastic test filled with some seriously good play by both sides, especially the Aussies

And yet, the only thing anyone is talking about over here still, on social media especially, is fucking reffing. We're supposed to be talking about the next game, and the Australian coach is still talking about being robbed last week. And shit that should have been cited. And all the other ways the Wallabies were dudded by the game.

What might be the problem with the game is the media, and people. All we focus on is the ref, and shit that went against our team. And we seek out shit like that. And we comment on it.
Aussie fans should be talking about the continued rise of Valetini, Samu's best ever test, Foley's comeback. A young side never feeling beaten and fighting back a couple of times. but no. lets write another article on the ref. of the last game.

@mariner4life Refs have a larger influence on the outcome of the game than anyone else so it's inevitable. Contrasted with, for example, AFL where they have a minimal influence.

Tell you what though, can't wait for the game to be sped up with this new crack down on time wasting. To be sped by - checks notes - awarding scrums...

@mariner4life I'm not even sooking. Any one player has nowhere the influence the ref does. That's why the ref is so often the subject of debate following a game.

Its impossible to get away from given the nature of the laws and the room for interpretation.

And no, I'm not gunna sook off and watch AFL because AFL is terrible.

Odd point. Are you saying that because the current penalty for time wasting is a scrum, that we just shouldn't bother enforcing the rule on time wasting?

As opposed to say, maybe - switches brain from whinge mode to solutions mode - changing the rule to award a scrum to awarding a free kick?

@voodoo isnt usually a free kick in most cases, but the teams choose to take a scrum, which takes the time

Correct. Tom Decent is another in a long line of hacks when it comes to rugby journalism. The judiciary did not admit Newell should have been cited.

It was Swain's defence that Newell should also have been cited.

@NTA it's just not true. Rugby journalism round here definitely sucks. But it's the same anywhere - we see the Saffas or the French blowing up about refs just as often.

To blame it on a few hack journos is silly. They just pick up on the obvious talking points.

Awarding scrums to the opposition. You forgot that part.

@antipodean I figured that was obvious.

@No-Quarter Yeah, am fired up to see this backline on Saturday. Really hope to see Jordie's big body smashing through the line off short-balls!

If Jordie is successful at 12 then what an(other) indictment of Foster honestly. He wrote Barrett off as an option in the midfield during Super rugby and obviously had no intention of trying him there during this campaign, it's only injury that has forced his hand. Good luck rather than anything resembling good management.

He's better suited there of course. He's not the fastest and can look ungainly joining the line out wide, but in close his running style is perfect for heavy traffic and as a bigger body more effective than the other options. He can also kick, pass and possibly most importantly offload.

This backline is definitely exciting. Let's see if they can realize that potential.... Apologies if I just gave him the kiss of death.

Spot on. Run, kick, pass threat plus defends really well. If he plays well he'll give Havili a run for his money at 12 with ALB still to return.

the ref didn't decide last Thursday. The Wallaby's inability to put Jordan on the deck decided last Thursday. You win by being in front at the final whistle. Not with a couple of minutes to go.

@mariner4life yeah yeah - didn't say he did. Foley shoulda just kicked it. Doesn't mean I'm wrong about why we are still talking about the ref.
