The omens are not good. 🙂

England referee Wayne Barnes will mark his 100th Test at Cardiff on Sunday (NZT) by starting the game with the whistle used in the famous 1905 Test between Wales and the All Blacks.
Wales won 3-0, but the game has forever been remembered for the non-awarding of a try to All Blacks centre Bob Deans who maintained, until his premature death in 1908 from complications after an appendix operation, that he had scored a fair try.

Barnes, Cardiff, Deans.....what could go wrong?

And I got a ticket and I’m going to wear my lucky pants

You're screwed then! I'm having to drive because the train unions decided to celebrate Guy Fawkes at home with the kids.

Check out the Knox Road car park. Used to use that on and it was near enough to walk but far enough not to be full. Defer, of course, to @MiketheSnow as our resident Welsh correspondent...

He couldn't have put his case forward further anymore with his performance in Maori 1 vs Ireland. He was outstanding. One of the only backs in NZ that has the ability to control a game with their boot.

"One of the only backs in NZ that has the ability to control a game with their boot."--that is um, kind of a very desirable attribute in a RWC year I would have thought...

@No-Quarter I’ve been a big fan of Beaudie at fullback because on the counter and broken play he is still a very dangerous proposition with space. I’d say the only reservation they would have about a permanent shift whilst Jordie is available to play fullback is Beaudies kicking. It’s still a pretty important tool needed and Jordie’s big boot has gotten us out of a few tough spots and I’m not sure anyone else has that in the squad.

And not that Beaudie is bad at this, but under the high ball Jordie’s ability to not only getting high, but jumping early to take it - he is pretty damn good at this and one of the better players I’ve seen.

Yeah - and it's noticeable that Jordie takes a pretty high proportion of defensive high balls - especially in traffic. When you've got attacking players waving their arms into the contest his size and timing are pretty handy.

The other thing that would need significant adjustment is the defensive system where the wings are pushing in and often leaving the outside player for Jordie to come across and smash - which he's also very good and safe at. He is a great big bastard who hits hard and Beaudy isn't.

Beaudy has more speed and a better counter-attacker in most situations.

If we could clone Jordie, I'd be pretty happy to have him at 2nd five and fullback - but, we can't and in my mind fullback is a more influential position. I'm hesitant to shift him at this late stage.

@Chris-B o would prefer a fullback who is an actual attacking threat from fullback

JB is very much a defensive fullback. I miss Mils

Yep. I never felt that Jordie's attributes were best suited for the back 3. Outstanding rugby skills, but no proper ability to create spark on the counter attack due to lacking of top-end speed and acceleration. Always felt he was too big and a little cumbersome.

In the midfield, he looked absolutely at home. His power as a runner, post-contact metres galore... his ability to interact with the backline, his physical presence in defence. He straightened the attack so well, he's a genuine triple-threat, can kick for length or tactically.

One other aspect I like is that he takes attention away from Mo'unga, which gives him more time and space - it reminded me of SBW & Cruden's partnership, as like Mo'unga, Cruden was a small ten, and playing inside a bigger frame in SBW really enabled his game to thrive.

Reckon Samisoni is on the bench in the Malcolm Marx role and we might see him after 30 mins if Codie isn’t firing. If Codie goes well then leaves him fresher to cause havoc.

Like the team, but ST better get close to 40 minutes. It really should be 70 with Taylor getting the final ten and a start against Scotland.

Codie Taylor should have been named as the starter in the ABXV if these guys had any balls.

But, here we are gambling with his form once again.

Why is our best frickin hooker on the frickin bench? Mr Codie “I can’t throw straight under pressure” Taylor starts instead? FFS I can’t wait to see the back of Foster and his stooopid selections.

Frizell I can accept given Akira provides impact off bench. How much more impact would’ve have been to start with Akira and have Sotutu providing impact?

I like the team. The loose trio looks balanced. Will be interesting to see how Jordie and Ioane combine. In that OZ test Jordie did a lot of attacking at the line so will we see a bit more variation.

I reckon they are managing Sami for the England match. They probably weren’t expecting him to play as much as he did last weekend.

Will Scotland be a tougher test than Wales?

So, at least for this week a good 3rd of the Fern hissy fits will be avoided with the selection of Jordie at 12.

Not sure what kind of pics Taylor has but he definitely has some.
