          Possible Unpopular Opinion

The tournament suffers as a spectacle by only having games on the weekend.

Agree. One of us or France should be playing again tonight, or possibly yesterday.

          Squads of 33, use them.

It’s very stop start alrite. There is a two week break in there somewhere too right?

We need games every two days so Sexton ends up in the knackers yard.

That can only be addressed with more teams participating. The outrage from minnows having to backup within a short window ensured that we'd only have games on the weekend.

Four pools of six teams, with seeding done after the traditional EOY tours the year preceding.

No. That cannot "only" be addressed by tournament team numbers.

They 'fixed' the minnow outrage in 2019.

Where everyone got 1 short turnaround each.

Previously. 2003 to 2015, the short turnaround were overwhelmingly stacked against the minnows. Which was when the whining was occurring.

Although, it is true that a totally fair draw can only come with an expansion to 24 or 32.

However. The abysmal scheduling should not get a free pass just because they've rightly ditched the 03-15 scheduling bias, but chosen a more shitty 1999ish weekend weighting rather than just rehashing the hugely successful '19 template.

Well we don't know with certainty because of the abandoned matches. Would Namibia have finally secured a win against Canada for example?

I still think the simple solution is more teams, which in turn helps grow the sport too.

                              Agreed.

Have 4 pools of 6, a 5-8 day turnaround schedule for everyone stacked roughly the same, and keep things rolling every night.

Also makes for more games between minnows, which is more awesomeness IMHO. And a shot at a RWC win for someone.

Will be at least another 2 RWC - and a shitload of investment - before we're ready for 8 pools of 4.

I don't think so. They get huge WR resources thrown at them "at the most critical time". During the RWC and the 'x' months build up. The training camps and build-up test for the T2 teams that have qualified, are paid for by WR.

While the article or headline might read like Tonga are travelling around France washing their own kit and buying their own balls ... . What the article is actually reporting is Piutatu's general experiences with Tonga - e.g.maybe about 6 months ago during a Tonga training camp, or 1 year ago during a November international test match, that the TRU supplied their own players & staff with jack-all.

                                e.g. From the article.

Fekitoa had said before Tonga’s first World Cup game that being in France and supplied with the best equipment had led to “the best few weeks for us” in training, adding “we get things like everyone else now, in a nice hotel, better balls, better food.”

Some NZers called the UK 'home' well into the 50s and 60s

I think the issue @bones was highlighting is Rugbypass, not Luatua, his comments were fine, as it appears he didn't make the home country statement.
