The passes from the tight forward are 50/50 often going either behind the player losing momentum or not to the player at all.

Sure some come off but half of them put us on the back foot

Three posts ago you were arguing that they should know how to pass by now?

That comment I meant for the backs. That's still a problem for them too when it shouldn't be. Tight forwards shouldn't be expected to assist in backline moves

Apart from off set piece, is there such a thing now? And, my comment stands for rugby players, it's not positional.

I also can't see how we'll have effective phase play if we don't have forwards who can effectively handle the ball, that's exactly where the NH has caught up.

Yup forwards should mostly do moves with forwards.

The Crusaders used the same pattern the ABs used extensively this year and had the same issues. The Blues rarely used the 'out the back door' pattern. The proof is in the pudding.

    Moving goalposts here.

Even the Blues Attack structure has forwards participating in phase play.

So, is your point that you don't like our pod system with down runners and the guy on the wrap?

I've said that many times about the 'out the back door' play.

The Blues forwards are focused in the narrow channels.

None of what I have said contradicts that. Not sure how you think it's moving the goal posts but what ever.

The wrap around tight forwards is a rubbish play when used over and over again. It leads to handling errors and backs not running hard and straight but sideways.

I still think it’s a good option to have in the tool belt against rush D. It challenges defenders and good players can look for broken defensive lines. McKenzie in particular.

i dont agree with this, this is exactly the deception that other team are doing that is giving the outside centres and wings space, draw a defended or two, then out the back to a player in motion and put runners in space

I really like what they are trying to do and the skills being developed. Suits someone like McKenzie who might spot a broken line and take advantage. The other thing they are working on is the inside player passing over the top of the rush D. They give us options and are good innovations.

@kev i generally agree...but what I think we need is a 10 that takes that back door and then hits the 13/wing/15 running into a gap rather than trying to run it himself. just the physics of it, 3 changes in direction rather than the 10 having to turn into a hole, plus the extra uncertainty of "whos he going to get it?"

I think the big looping run of the 10 is what jams up out outside rather than quick hands and straight runs at different angles

I do find it amusing, highlighted by Parsons and Hall on the ARP, that some commentators mention that the record could have been better but for the close loses, and fail to acknowledge the close wins (Eng x 3, Aust) that could have went the other way. Fine margins.

Mind you, everyone's gonna stand up for him when they made him out to be the best thing since sliced bread during the Fozzie reign.

Fozzie just had to breathe and the media and public (especially Cantabs) were out to get him.

Which was fair enough as his results were largely shit. If Robertson’s results continue like that we should expect the same response. Hopefully he wouldn’t get reappointed after one decent result as well (yes I know he has 4 years).

Next year is actually much more in our favour for a good year. France are sending a reduced strength squad and we have 3 tests against them, both SA games are in NZ, even the Ireland match is Chicago (yes we have a 100% loss record there but it should be easier than Dublin). No Japan or Fiji matches to pad percentages but realistically I think we should only lose one, at most two, otherwise I will be disappointed.

Jack Goodhue? LF? Fuck why don't we get the shit Whitelocks and George Bridge back while we are at it? Can we also get Aaron Mauger out of retirement?

This would all be so laughable if it wasn't so disrespectful

I do find it amusing, highlighted by Parsons and Hall on the ARP, that some commentators mention that the record could have been better but for the close loses, and fail to acknowledge the close wins (Eng x 3, Aust) that could have went the other way. Fine margins.

Mind you, everyone's gonna stand up for him when they made him out to be the best thing since sliced bread during the Fozzie reign.

Fozzie just had to breathe and the media and public (especially Cantabs) were out to get him.

Harsh generalisation. I welcomed him, as did a number of others. But he has not lived up to his promise so far, and deserves to be put on notice with a no holds barred end of season performance review

Yeah and guys like yourself have called him out on his shortcomings, unlike a lot of his followers who just defend everything he does because it's him.

Brilliant defensive centre but yeah agree lack of pace counted against him especially after those knee injuries.

The two games away in Argentina will be a challenge. We do appear to have a more settled squad than last year, not that many departing other than Sam Cane and TJP. Sounds like Razor is pushing hard for the rules to change, sounds like overtures have been made to Jack Goodhue who has signed on to an extra year. RM and SF were initially who he secked to change the rule for, it appears they are coming back at some stage. LF return will be important as well, he left at a young age.

Goodhue surprises me if correct. I was a fan until it became obvious he was a tad too slow and then the injuries making things worse.

I think the midfield is his future. Think he'd make a good 12 tbh and would love to see him tried there for the Crusaders.
