I could care less about the hit and giggle games...at least ODis have some subtlety and tactical nuances involved. But for me It's all about test Cricket, to the point I just deleted every single piece of t20 and ODI footage I've collected since 2004 - I'll never watch them whereas Test match stuff - I could watch every one of Kane's test 100s again and gain along with McCullum's 302/Roscoe's 290 and not be jaded

Pretty much agree with all of this albeit not quite so vehemently. It can be fun to watch and I do appreciate T20 for the skills that players take into the test arena, particularly some of the fielding and increased scoring rates in test cricket has to be a good thing too.

But there’s some really bog standard first class players with ordinary records made to look really good because they’re there for a good time and not a long time.

The fielding absolutely, the effect on batting technique, not so much. I'm all for faster scoring but there's a lot more to test batting than is able to be learned in t20. Also, t20 requires flat pitches to satisfy the LCD crowds. If here is one positive it's that spinners are actually getting more respect and recognition although that's counterbalanced by the inability aof many t20 batters to handle a non-optimal batting strip against a decent spinner

@No-Quarter for the most part you're probably right but this is Aussie, any win over Aussie is satisfying.

It’s only T20. Means absolutely nothing compared to the test series

…….and I do hear all of that but I still remember 30 or so years ago a score of 220 off 50 was really competitive. I’m glad that’s up around 300 now.

Then again there’s hardly the collection of terrifying pace bowlers playing nowadays that there was then ( all due respect to the Australian test attack )

There’s a few factors at play.

People do have a habit of saying it was a ‘shit’ game if it’s low scoring though. I think that’s pretty harsh. Cricket is a game between bat and ball that should be even

@MN5 I was more saying any win over Aus is satisfying but I’d take a test win over a t20 win hands down.

I'll take a test win over Aussie over winning the 2024 t20 WC every single time. I'm old enough to remember every test win over Aussie. They are scarce enough to be valued much higher than some biennial tourney

See I used to think the same thing. But then India beat Australia at the Gabba with a bunch of limited over batters and bowlers. I have had to reassess my opinion on the back of that.

Jeepers. Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood playing this version of the game.
