Modern internet landscape is going to be fun with these fucking AI startups stealing data from where ever they can to train models.

I've hidden some content from non logged in users. I can see from the logs the bots aren't scraping for rugby..

The suggestions my provider had to update .htaccess seems to have helped with their resource alerts. Not sure if that would help with the bot situation here

Thanks. We use nginx so it's slightly different. We will be making changes in that area tomorrow though

Is there any way of blocking the bots? A WAF or something? Or too costly?

(edit - I am sure you have already thought of this)

There's no new costs. We are running at a slight loss though. We'll try to close that gap with ads before begging

There won't be any downtime today

I made a change earlier today that has helped. Non logged in page views have dropped a lot and the stress on the CPU has eased back

Speed seems almost back to normal

I want to let it run like this for 24 hours to get some better logs. Will do the maintenance later in the week

How much is the shortfall? I suspect a number of people would make a small contribution than see ads

Not much. It still comes out of @Kirwan 's account.. He'll have the exact number

As for ads, anyone who donates won't see them. Will probably have 'awards' to remove ads too.. top 3 of the tipping contest, write quality posts, do good match commentary etc etc
