Henry should have replaced Southee in the side well before he became a fixture to be honest.

Yeah the whole ‘giving him a farewell’ was pretty bad in retrospect. He could have played vs Zimbabwe and still not made it to 400 wickets

Very good player part of the best trio of pace bowlers we’ve ever had at one time as @Virgil says but should have quit far sooner

        Definitely
        Southee has the worse record.
His longevity was great but he was hardly a James Anderson.

        Henry - 134 Wickets @ 27.69 - SR 52.67
        Boult - 317 Wickets @ 27.49 - SR 54.94
        Wagner - 260 Wickets @ 27.57 - SR 52.78
        Southee - 391 Wickets @ 30.26 - SR 60.07

Southee averaged over 40.00 during his last 3 years (19 tests) with a SR of 77.
        why was he picked

Funny career for Southee as well because you mention his last 19 tests, his first 19 tests weren't too flash either (with the odd good spell). He must have had a hell of a career inbetween those tests mentioned.

why was he picked ... as captain? For a subcontinent tour?

An average of 30 is pretty much the cut off between good and very good ( with under 25 being World class ). When Southee was in the late 20s I wish he’d given it away before hitting 30.

He might have eventually scraped his way to 400 test wickets as I’m sure that was the plan at the start of last summer but crumbs, didn’t quite work out unfortunately. He obviously bought Matt Henry’s pie cart cos he was giving them away multiple times every over he bowled.

which is what makes James Anderson's record so remarkable
is he the best fast bowler of all time? no not by a long way, but to maintain an average of 26 over 188 tests and 21 years is fucken amazing.

To his credit he got better with age. Took 267 wickets at 30.05 in his first 70 tests.

To improve like that is damn impressive.

You could argue he is Englands best ever when you factor in class AND longevity. Only THREE other England frontline bowlers played more than 100 tests.

                  Actually it’s probably Fred Truman.

Then again, check out George Lohmann, 112 wickets at 10.75 in 18 tests.

Could easily still be playing today too, but only got dropped because of his age, and his longevity is a testament in itself with fast bowlers having a far shorter shelf life.

One of the very few natural swing bowlers who mastered the art of swinging the ball both ways.

Matt Henry and Zachery Foulkes ( who ? ) take a bow.

                        125 all out.

Seems weird to say considering they almost won by an innings last test but I expect much better batting from the boys this time round.

Yeah Good performance by Zac he has come over too Brisbane the last two seasons to play in the 20/20 comp playing for Wynnum.I have seen a bit of him over the last two 20/20 comps he has developed nicely.
                        Genuine swing bowler.
He has big potential with the bat as well.

Will Young is too good a player not to have a test hundred by now, is it some kind of mental block ?

I’d like to see a massive score by at least one top order batsman today.

                          Thinking double hundred type massive.

Need to stop having to rely on Mitchell to dig us out of shit.

Then roll them cheaply again for an innings win.

Seems apt for me to have my annual gripe about night watchmen.

Henry Nicholls fielded yesterday which I’m assuming wasn’t too taxing considering Zimbabwe got rolled for 125.

He didn’t bowl a single delivery then sat and watched Conway and Young put Zimbabwe to the sword.

Young gets out late in the day……only takes a single delivery as we all know.

As a specialist batsman it isn’t too much of an ask to go out and…..BAT for 10-15 minutes ? Isn’t that what he signed up for ?

Duffy only about 178 runs away from Jason Gillespies record. He should definitely have a crack

It'd be hilarious if Duffy can score a tinny hundred before he takes a wicket

Very pleased for Conway, even if it is just Zimbabwe. He's actually scored a few runs of late.

Honestly we could already declare and still win comfortably so we're quickly getting into the territory of how long we let our batsmen go for milestones.
