Well isn't there always a drop after first rung of contenders?

@taniwharugby Partially agree, David Kirk clearly thought there was more risk keeping Scott Robinson as Head Coach for the rest of his contract than going to market without a clear and obvious replacement.

The leap in the dark element is who we now get and how quickly and whether they can sort our most major problems.

But those are the risks you take in business. And I applaud David Kirk for following his gut. Fingers crossed it works out for him and for us.

Personally don't know for sure (don't have all info) whether it was right or wrong, but surely if he thought it needed to be done, he has done what he should. Do we want a board (and it's not just Kirk) to sit there and go ah,um we need to think on this for a while?

So our alternates to the shit show are:
Jospeh: how has an objectively terrible coaching record. One super rugby title, five seasons of absolutely terrible results against Kiwi and South African super rugby teams and dropped Japans winning % by about 20% from Eddie Jones’ Japanese team

Jones is half-Japanese with a Japanese wife and speaks Japanese, a bid of an advantage there.

Schmidt: Led Ireland to two RWC quarter final thrashing in a row and if you think Robertson’s selection mistakes were bad, look at Schmidt’s outdated and old 2019 Ireland squad!

Bloody hell that is selective! Irish depth wasn't great and might want to mention what Schmidt did with Foster's team!

Rennie: Couldn’t buy a super rugby title and the Wallabies were ok and is now coaching (wait for it) in Japan…

From Wiki: "Team and Year: He joined the Chiefs for the 2012 season and led them to their first-ever Super Rugby title. Record: Rennie became the first rookie Super Rugby coach to win the title. Other Successes: Before his time with the Chiefs, he also led the Wellington Lions to an NPC title in his first year as head coach in 2000."
Now doing very well over there in Japan
I'd say leading a mid-ranked team to their first championship and in his first year as coach is highly relevant!

Crotter: Never finished above 4th in the six nations, had an ok record in France, got one super rugby title before usual service resumed once the Crusaders sorted themselves out.

You mean once ex-Crusaders coaches got the good Blues players kicked out of the ABs and considering emigrating...

Don’t pretend any of these guys will be any good. 2027 will be a shit show and 2028 will have to be a full reboot

    Terrible analysis. Glass full cyanide.

Surely Graham Henry was the first in 1996, the first season of super rugby 🤔

Ok then. Those teams were Auckland, not the Blues.

Edit: 30 year old irrelevant rugby bs...

Rumour from a few in the highlanders camp. JJ will be heading off in three weeks from the landers and he likely has the ABs job. Now this source has fed me some accurate information in the past but also some half dud stuff. So take it with a grain of salt

....i was really looking forward to this season....i guess the disappointment has just hit in Jan rather than like April or may

Lol, highlander's trajectory can only be better than 2025 (dead last)... and hence we'll never know if Joseph was the problem or not...

I wonder if we will hear anything today based on the below from earlier this week in a Paul Cully article.

That means that the next coach might not be in place before the start of Super Rugby Pacific, with more details on the process to be unveiled later this week.

Thanks for that! Seems to me Cotter has the best international record, and Joseph second; Rennie has the best Super record, then Cotter and Joseph tie or Joseph third, but he has that recent NZ XV 3-0 record as a second near AB-level team. At international club level take your pick, possibly Cotter then Rennie then Joseph (how do you judge his coaching the Sunwolves?)
Arguably Joseph has taken the lowest-level teams, but Cotter and Rennie have arguably stronger records except for the thumpingly gigantic Wallaby-sized hole in Rennie's CV.
They are all good at turning teams around quickly, like a bit of discipline, and can work with others but definitely the leaders.

Three good candidates, what's not to like? I hope they all get a chance*
The depth of the assistant coach paddling pool perhaps...

*Has Cotter expressed any interest? Missed that if so.

I haven’t read the last week or so posts. But this is what I’ve heard. Still rumours but from a very reliable source.
I don’t think the Dalton rumours are true.
Ardie is the main instigator behind all of it.
Not sure if it’s well known in the hurricanes area. But ardie likes to play around. Something happened on tour somewhere and razor found out. He gave him a right serve and Ardie took offence to it and it all started from there. Ardie only hangs with who ardie wants to hang with. Kava session in his room and no outsiders. They were all told to give bad reviews etc and that’s how it all started.
How it led to the sacking I don’t know.
Again just rumours and may not be true.

So the rumor is basically Ardie is a wife cheating, cliquey, devious backstabber.
