The powerful 26-year-old known as Big Jim spent two fruitful years with Moana Pasifika, putting fear into the hearts of Super Rugby defenders with his robust running style.

Anyone who has watched NZ rugby for more than a year or so should know that DMac's nic was always Big Jim, it's what players used to call him in interviews etc. I think it a Chiefs one for quite sometime. I have never heard Tavatanawai called Big Jim, but we see it on net , but comes from hiw nic at Ta$man where he was Jim the Difference. I know that's why some called him Big Jim, because it was easier etc and probably just changed from the Ta$man one. (and I called him Big Jim by mistake on an Auusie rugby site, and Aussies all jumped on me reminding me who the original Big Jim is)
-
i feel like im being gas lit, ive never heard DMac called Jim/big jim....but Tavatavanawai had a thing on the Highlanders socials when he was named captain saying Jim/Big Jim was his nickname

If Dan wasn't so straight up I'd assume he was taking the piss
-
@Kiwiwomble I think I have some vague memory of hearing/seeing it years ago, but definitely didn't stick and never heard or seen it since until now.... after half a year of TT being referred to as Jim.

If it wasn't for the characteristic typo I would have guessed this was an AI-takeover.

Dan is right. Grok confirms it.

I kind of be a little surprised if Sititi starts, coming back from injury, and hasn't quite looked real world beater during Super this year (although he was good). Think they may just bring him in slowly. But of course in me suggesting that they may do exact opposite.
Nailed on starter now Danny!

@antipodean I don't disagree but I can't see Savea being subbed off or starting on the bench any time soon.
Unfortunately neither can I, and the All Blacks are the worse for it.
What the fuck are U talking about. Ardie is world class. He has proved himself time after time for years .
At hitting rucks? Putting in a hard shoulder that turns into a dominant tackle others can driver through to win a turnover?
Or are we talking about seagulling to carry a ball, often with defenders hanging off him with the resulting slow ruck clearance for the next phase? Chip kicks from 10m out of our own line? His abysmal defensive reads? His low effort in running back into the defensive line? His giving up metres in defence trying to scrag players to the deck in the hope he gets a turnover?
He looks all the world a back that's been asked to play in the forwards.
Or maybe I'm wrong and his highlight reel clearly puts me back in my box.
Obviously all the experts including the ones that chose him as world player of the year are wrong and all the "experts" on here are right. I stand corrected.

I'm not sure you're aware of the process, but the rugby loving community vote on the nominees. The same people getting all excited over the highlight reel...

I don't want to get into this Savea slugfest but Wilson, Muliaina, Turunui and other ex-internationals have rated him highly. Very highly.
And some guy called Joe Schmidt:
āPeople probably underestimate how good he is in the lineout, heās actually so quick because heās so explosive ā heās a very good option. Thereās not a lot he canāt do.ā"
