There will be no Rugby Championship next year as New Zealand and South Africa begin their “rugby’s greatest rivalry” tours.

The Sunday Star-Times can reveal that the All Blacks will embark on an eight-game tour in early August next year, comprising four tests against the Springboks and four games against South Africa’s former Super Rugby sides - the Stormers, Bulls, Sharks and Lions.

But the next full edition of the Rugby Championship is now unlikely until 2029, as the All Blacks will tour South Africa in 2026, a Rugby World Cup is locked in for 2027 and the Sanzaar tours will start in 2028.

Rugby Championship to be turfed under massive SANZAAR tours shake-up

Rugby Championship to be turfed under massive SANZAAR tours shake-up

The annual tournament between the Wallabies, All Blacks, Springboks and Pumas won’t be sighted again, in full, until 2029.

Good. Tours are much more interesting.

Interesting. 2027 is supposed to be a full TRC, not a condensed one. So either that's changed or the article is incorrect.

It will see The Rugby Championship (TRC), the Southern Hemisphere’s pre-eminent tournament, played in 2027, 2028 and 2029. Importantly, it will also deliver for the first time a full Rugby Championship (TRC) tournament in a Rugby World Cup year (2027) allowing the SANZAAR nations an excellent preparation and run-in to the tournament.

So Paul Cully's article was incorrect.

Presumably the 2030 tours will just be the reverse of 2026's (i.e. SA travels to NZ).

I like it. Provides some more incentives for the international game.

My understanding is this year’s comp basically saved the 2028 edition, it was about to be gone.

None that I have heard, but you would assume they have sorted something out.
But to be real honest, I not too worried, not something that concerns me.

The Rugby Championship is a tired format - I would have been happy to see it revert to every two years, but they should have included Japan and Fiji.

A good chance for them to try and get Fiji and Japan involved, play a 4 team series between the lot of them.

agree with this, my main concern is it should have been done in conjunction

i thought there were broadcast deals in place, this was maybe already included when last agreed?
