All Blacks vs Wallabies Bledisloe II

I definitely think Lakai should start at 8. With Siti coming off the bench. I would like to see Lakai start a game at 7 and Siti at 8. The issue for Siti playing 8 is that he & Ardie are to similar & Ardie is our best player so you are not dropping him. Potentially Lakai takes over at 7 after the World Cup and Siti then can start at 8.

Ardie Savea avoids doing parts of a loose forward's game he doesn't care for and disrupts the loose trio balance. He's a negative multiplier for the team despite his one or two impressive moments each game.

Savea is inarguably our best forward on the turnover, Kirifi second, then daylight. There are some other aspects to the game:
Running hard into contact (okay).
Passing and holding space (okay).
Beating defenders (good).
Lineout target (poor).
Dominant tackles (below average).
Try-line defence (average).
Quantity of tackles (okay).
Accuracy of tackles (very good).
Securing attacking rucks (poor).
Slowing down opposition ball (okay). -
@nostrildamus I think the opportunity to try this out is on the end of year tour particularly against Wales.

@Mauss that's unreal analysis
I hate the current chopping and changing culture the ABs have. They need to find a back row and stick with it. For me off the back of that analysis why not:
- Lakai (has he played here)
- Dalton (we need a work horse, someone phone and apologize)
- Savea
Bench Sititi. I've not seen anything from Parker which makes me think he's in the fold really.
I want balance.
- Muscle + intimidation
- Engine + disruption
- Composure + explosiveness
I don't want any of them to shy away from making tackles and hitting rucks and I never want to see a chip kick.
I basically want to replicate Kaino, McCaw, Read or earlier, Alan Whetton, Michael Jones, Buck Shelford or Zinzan
I like that they're trying Parker and Vaa'i at 6 and I'm patient enough to wait for these guys to find their feet - genuine size to be strong lineout options and jump against Big Pieter-Steph.
Size-wise I like Ardie at 7, because he's always going to be a small 8. He probably doesn't play either role in a traditional manner, but he can play footy.
I'd like a big bruising 8, which frankly could be Hoskins (I don't buy the coaching conspiracy theories) if he's fit and in form. Thought Lakai went well at the weekend, Sititi looked the business last year, and CLW did a good job earlier this year - I'd like all of them to be a bit bigger.

If we're sticking to those currently in the squad (to make the suggestion somewhat realistic) I would too, but only if Parker, Finau or Vaa'i are at 6.
-
@Chris-B yeah I thought Parker showed huge promise in his latest game, couple of lovely moments of returning opposition from whence they came.
Lakai played probably his best test and looked like he could make a good fist of 7 (although it was eerily similar to Jacobson style I thought).
Just need Read (or more likely Sotutu).
Savea/Sititi/CLW perfect bench men.

That's awesome stuff - along with your various other posts.
Without breaking any privacy protocols - this isn't the work of an average punter. Have you managed to get paid to do some of this stuff?
Thanks, it was fun to write. Making all those gifs was more time-consuming than I liked but I didn’t want to cut back too much (Sititi’s ruck watching at Eden Park didn’t make the cut, alas).
No, no money involved. It’s a strange hobby, I’ll admit, but it’s enjoyable in itself to me to get a better understanding of things. And putting stuff into words helps a lot in this regard.

Mate, the only thing I have any fault with it? Just it makes me envious someone has the ability to do this as a fan. I absolutely love the game, but have neither the patience nor brains to do it
, so again, it's great and I/we appreciate it!

I am not in the CLW bandwagon. He was just okayish against France C. He is a midget for a Nr.8, as is Kirifi for an opensider. Both are very good at SR level but their lack of size is insurmountable against the likes of SA, England, Ireland or a full strength France.

Fair call. It was France C
-
@African-Monkey Fair. Maybe reading it after the event made it worse. I certainly was criticising a lot in the first 20 minutes but also really impressed that we weren't 10-15 points down. There were some great saves.

Why should SFM have been red carded?
I believe that was Moodie
Who knew @NTA stood for Nisbo The Aussie
Even so, zero chance of Moodie getting a red card. Worst case scenario the knock down would have been a penalty (but I think the right verdict was reached).

He looked very regular sized in the flesh when I saw him vs France earlier this year. There's already enough guys of that ilk like Savea, Sititi, Kirifi and Lakai.
-
I'm not really on the CLW bandwagon per se and agree that there are too many small guys.
On form I'd take Lio WIllie and Lakai over Sititi and Kirifi.
Of those four I think there is only room for one in the squad and its probably Lakai at the moment.
My top 6 would be:
Savea, Papali'i, Sotutu, Finau, Paker, and Lakai
Sititi needs to go back to SRP and regain some form. If Sotutu is out with shoulder surgery recovery I'd bring in Flanders who is the form NPC player at 8 and has also played very well at Super Level. I realise Lio Willie has been very good also but Flanders has been better and he offers more size. Flanders is closer to Sotutu in that he offers a very good lineout option.
Jacobson seems to be in Blackadder territory now. I thought he was the Chiefs best forward this year so he should be there but he's just too unreliable injury wise.
