All Blacks 2025

Given our current options I am happy to see him back. While he ain't no Dan Carter, I would take him in a heart beat over BB.
-
I watch both players and see Dyer as having a great all round skillset and solid but not destructive at scrum. I don't see the same skillset with Mafileo at BOP. I don't know he has the agility needed to be a dependable performer at test level, but is clearly a very solid scrummager.

@Canes4life Sorry, initial statement was going to be for ALB. With Tupaea playing 13, I think there is every chance ALB or Proctor gets shunted down - particularly if they see Tavatavanawai being able to fill the bench role.
J Barrett & Tupaea backed up by T Tavatavanawai and R Ioane.
If they are looking for a fifth one, they may favour ALB's experience + ability to also play 12.
Tupaea's performance in Perth was comfortably better than anything Proctor has shown this year, and probably somewhat puts to bed the argument that the reason he has been a bit lacklustre due to those inside him.
Tupaea had a great match, don't get me wrong but it also coincided with McKenzie playing 10, which allowed Tupaea to get the ball in his hands more. If the ABs used Proctor the way the Hurricanes have, I'm almost certain he would have a lot more positive effect on this team.
Come on, McKenzie didn't play that well. Tupaea just runs harder lines which sucks the defence - he's also a much better tackler than Proctor.
Proctor had six tests to start the year, and didn't even show a glimpse. I'm not writing him off forever, but the fact Ioane was on the bench in Perth, and came on at centre, would suggest Proctor has been relegated to third choice.
I'm not arguing against Tupaea, because he was very good. I just don't think Proctor has fallen as far as you make out. I still think he'd be preferred over Ioane and ALB who have been given more than enough opportunity in the 13 jersey. We need to move on from them.
Ioane should still be very much a part of the plans but ALB has been found wanting for years. Definitely time to move on from him.

Personally I wouldn't pick Beauden Barrett for the All Blacks XV based on his horrific 2025 form, let alone the All Blacks squad.
He could help us all out by retiring from international rugby.

Tupaea was absolutely shitehouse when he came on against South Africa in Wellington and frankly I was surprised he didn't get dropped like Kirifi.
Hes had one good game against an injury depleted Australia.
Akira Ioane gave a bunch of motm performances in 2021 making Valetini look like a fool and rightly or wrongly nothing become of him so I dont see anything being set in stone after 1 great game against a B side.
I like Tupaea and while he did show something much better than what we have seen from Proctor he also showed something much worse than what we have seen from Proctor.

Yeah I was a fan of ALB but now days he's either injured or getting carded.

It will be interesting to see if he is even more reluctant to take contact after this latest injury. It seemed to me he picked it up the first time I recall him getting tackled. It was in the lead up to an AB try, and the Aussie commentators were whinging he knocked on.

Blues fans and Akira Ioane. Give it away.
You forgetting Tupaea coming on and running over three people to put the ABs clear the week prior at Eden Park?

He came off the bench and actually made an impact.
A rather unusual occurrence in Razors All Blacks this year.

So hes good every other game like quite a number of ABs. Rocks and diamonds. Thats why we have only won 58% of RC games in the last 2 years.
Good try by Tupaea but we lost the last quarter at Eden Park 14 to 7.
At the moment I dont have any preference out of Proctor, Tupaea or Ioane but my impression is that none of them are 80 minute players.

@Number-10 naming the AB XV squad on Tuesday I’m guessing

More than anything I like Quinns impact off the bench, I think he will always get you good post contact metres late in the game against tired defenders. But like you I don't see him as an 80 minute player. Even though he killed it in Perth I still think he is best utilized as an impact player, he's the guy who puts the final nail in the coffin of a team that is hanging on by a thread.
I'm not that down on Proctor despite the fact that he was tbh a tad underwhelming and did not really impose himself on games. Id like to see him develop into a starting quality 13 who distributes and allows players around him to flourish. Whether he can be that I don't know but he did show some positive signs in the RC, it just sucks that it was also interspersed with a lot of meh.
