Jacomb reminds me a bit of Perofeta in that in wide open games he can look a million bucks but it doesnt always translate in tighter games
I do think the hype is over the top - of course that's not his fault.
He's still young so let's hope he continues to improve.
Priabbaly a little more robust on both sides of the ball than SP. SP did have some silky moves though.

Some bewildering performances in that lot. Naki tight forwards started well, but the lineout became a disaster.
Grindlay lacks vision and finesse.
And IWL keeps up his reputation for dumb things at crucial times.
Really impressed by Sam Smith, McClutchie and Sullivan, and Fomai ran hard. -

Anyone who thinks Jacomb is responsible for that loss has holes in there head. Our forwards had one of their dumb and dumber games tonight. The ball when they let it go was in almost every case shit!
We have had a few games this year we have done that, and have relied on Jacomb to pull us out of shit.
Unfortunately we had Poliki at 8, who when he is at 6 or 8 just tends to lose ball and make wrong decisions.
Gut that's the way it goes, some real dumb decisions made altogether, Hawkes Bay were down to 14 with halfdack off and we took kick for goal (got it), then we are the team down one we take a scrum from right in front and Poliki loses the ball picking it up off the scrum after picking it up when we had HB scrum back pedaling .
Still been a good season and I can relax and ebjoy rest not worrying too much who wins.I dont think anyone has blamed Jacomb but he certainly didn't do himself any favours. Taranaki had good ball and were dominant for the first 20 minutes and Sullivan kicked Hawkes Bay out of trouble - something Ive never seen Jacomb do when his team are relentlessly under the pump.
The commentators said Hawkes Bay had made 58 tackles in the first 20 minutes and Jacomb did nothing of consequences with that ball.
Jacomb does not look good when his team are under pressure and he does not have the game management yet for the next level.

He’ll be better for it. At least he has demonstrated the ability to take on the line.
I’d also be shocked if Lord was anywhere near the ABs set up atm. Should be automatic in that lineout

Yeah that last quarter of lineout was when a player like Lord should have been dominating - especially when Hawkes Bay had a lock off the field.

I not sure why Naki seemed reluctant to call Lord too, most of year our default go to call has seemed to be Boshier.

I believe that Taranaki had the best lineout in the NPC, so those late misfires were a surprise.
In the earlier game this season between Naki and The Bay, the commentators were saying that Naki had a 100% lineout performance so far during the season
-
@frugby said in QF: Hawkes Bay v Taranaki:
@Bovidae Really? Feels like their lineout has been a real weak point when I have watched.
I think they had only lost 3 all season

Me neither mate, I been at all Naki home games, and it just frustrates me the number of times he loses ball in contact, often because he just doesn't place it properly. He has a bit to like, but genuinely think NPC is his ceiling.

No argument , I wasn't accusing anyone here of that, merely stating that anyone who was blaming him had holes in head. You feeling a little precious or victimized this morning mate?

By the same token you seem to be absolving him of any blame whatsoever. He has some responsibility of the result along with the other players. I dont think you could say Taranaki played to their true potential.

Feeling fine. I was just particularly interested in your take given that you have been leading the Jacomb bandwagon for some time.

Still will be on Jacomb bandwagon, I been watching this game long enough to not write off a player when he didn't have a good game. I haven't yet seen a player be on top of game all the time, and I only on his bandwagon as I think he probably the most balanced of the uncapped 10s we got.
I genuinely think young Simpson from Auckland another I like the look of. -

No I not absolving him from blame, the whole team takes responsiblity, but I genuine think we got ripped a new one in breakdowns, and there were some decisions that were a bit head scratching. Disappointing thing was a few of our players that normally go better didn't fire in backline, among them Crowley who I wonder if he should of been subbed earlier as he limped for a lot of the match, think Jacomb could of been better as to Daniel Rona. But forwards disappointed me most, as our usual good lineout struggled, and breakdown was messy, I believe because secondary players weren't cleaning out for a big part of game. I was worried when I heard Parete was moved to 6, much as I love his grit etc, I haven't been convinced he is one of the good thinkers in loose.
