Rugby Championship scrapped?
-
The Rugby Championship is a tired format - I would have been happy to see it revert to every two years, but they should have included Japan and Fiji.

whats the plan for the Aussies and Argies then?
A good chance for them to try and get Fiji and Japan involved, play a 4 team series between the lot of them.

I like it. Provides some more incentives for the international game.
like what?

agree with this, my main concern is it should have been done in conjunction
i thought there were broadcast deals in place, this was maybe already included when last agreed?

None that I have heard, but you would assume they have sorted something out.
But to be real honest, I not too worried, not something that concerns me.And that’s why you should be worried FFS
That’s 50% of your competition you dolts

Mate I got enough in life to worry about. There is no way I can influence or would be involved in a Wallaby/Puma series etc, so to actually think I should worry about it, we perhaps just have a different outlook. I hope they work something out, but genuinely not going to worry . The whole rugby landscape is changing , but I don't find it affects me enough to actually worry.
-
@Dan54 i think the idea is less about us watching it...as the potential down turn of rugby in aus if they dont have a high level comp to attract interest. that assuming you buy into the idea we need a string local opposition (aussie) to keep us honest

Yep understand that kiwi, and do think we want strong local competition, but see no point in worrying about it. If I lived in Aus I would maybe have a little concern, but I don't so c'est la vie. I genuinely would worry if NPC etc was changed, but what Aus and Arg do isn't high on my list. I would almost bet a huge percentage of Aus rugby people aren't worried about NZ and SA apart from it meaning they get less tests etc.

@Dan54 thats fair...but i can assure you aussie rugby people i talk too are a bit annoyed for the exact same reason we're doing these tours, you want to be playing team on your level or even better, in a lot of ways the ABs are to the wallabies what the bokke are to the AB's

I understand that mate. But you look at almost any Aus rugby forum etc, (and I found when I lived there) I found it quite different to how we and SA are. As you say they annoyed that we doing these tours, but genuinely I am happy that NZR and SA rugby unions are doing what THEIR OWN f***en supporters want. I know we want Aus strong, but I had a lot of time explaining to Aussies that NZR's first bloody job is NZ rugby, and although they take note of Aus rugby, they should never be first in their thinking. NZ rugby should be! Mate as you say, and what I read, NZR are (as usual) not caring about Aus rugby and ripping the TRC apart.
Want to know something there are 2 countries from in TRC involved, but we only hear how the poor Aussies are being shafted by NZR?
See apart from this year, it has been oh yeah the TRC again (yawn). And that has been from many in Aus too. -
@Dan54 i guess thats just where we come at it differently, im actually not worried about playing SA 4 times, i would rather plays against different teams...and i kind of think playing against a wider range of string teams would be better for NZ in the long run, not about doing aussie a favour

3 or 4 kiwi? I guess you weren't into Wallabies playing Lions 3 times? Or when we has 3 tests for Bled etc. It's only one more, I wouldn't of mined a 3 test series, but the tour is the beauty part of it. The last one is an extra money spinner at Twickers! Aus till get same amount of tests against ABs (2)next year, so what's the problem?
For all the whinging from Aus, it's the Pumas who miss out, and ABs wern't due to tour Argentina next year anyway! -
@Dan54 the lions is a bit different, its once every 12 years rather than a team we play multipe times every year, generally no i wasnt overly down for a 3rd bledisloe......i generally prefer the 6 nations one game each format....less frequent = more special
ive seen Argentinians complain too, the abs were touring but they would have still played
-
I'm with Dan on this one.
I assume there is guna be some sort of Bledisloe happening that season.
That's a good money spinner, so I'm sure there will be something.The RC is OK, but I dont get extra excited . . . yeah . . . whatever . . .
Now SA v NZ . . . yes please! -

As I say kiwi, I bloody pleased SAR and NZR are giving us what Saffas and NZers want, and I don't think there should be any apologies for it. You right about Lions is only every 12 years, but it been a bloody sight longer than that since we have has tours with SA. I would guess you living overseas? I can tell you these dates were released last night, I have only been to supermarket toady, and have had 2 people I vaguely know say to me with excitement, have you seen the tour dates for next year?
Don't forget RA were all for organising a tour in 2028, until the extra interst in RC this year. Unfortunate problem being reactive and not proactive like SA and NZ were. -

*some people kiwis
awesome there are people that are going to love it, just saying not everyone. I had lots of discussion with people whilst living in NZ about playing the same teams too often each year, especially that year we played SA and AU 3 times each in the RC
and once again...yes its been ages since we had a tour....but we have played twice every year since the last tour....which is still very different from not playing a team at all for 12 years...and you were just saying a couple of posts ago 4 isn;t much more the 3 or 2....so its kind of needs to be this once a career event for players....or a small change...cant be both

Not sure what you mean, are you saying Lions tours are lessened because many Lions do multiple tours? Once again, I agree once every 4 years is plenty often enough for these tours with SA, that's once in each country every 8 years. I also say I would be happy if RC was scrapped and we didn't play it (and ech other) as often as we do. So scrap the RC is the answer? I not sure what it is, but this is a bloody good start. As I say I understand that some in Aus are pissed off, that doesn't worry me. I make no two ways about it, I am bloody happy with the tour and even if it 4 tests , the fact is boards have to take opportunities to make cash unfortunately. RA will be ok, aren't they trumpeting $100 mill profit from Lions , and similar from WC in 27, so why the problem of SA and NZ doing something. You ave to remember SA missed out on a fortune when Lions toured and covid was hammering the world. It's not all about Aus mate!
-
@Dan54 no i was saying the lions tour is not really comparable to us touring SA as you were suggesting because they are so infrequent, yes the tour next year will be different....but we will still have played SA within 12 months as opposed to 12 years
no, RA got $100M flat fee for the RWC and a fair chunk is already gone on debt with little making it past the super teams, and not sure how else to word im not stressing about aussie...but about how i feel a competitive RC like this year is better for the AB's than exhibition games against the SA franchise and repetitive games against the Bokke

The length of and number of games in the 6Ns is no doubt influenced by the domestic comps though and the long duration of those seasons. With two breaks in their domestic seasons for SH EOYTs and 6Ns whilst trying to maintain interest in their domestic comps is a balancing act.
