Several sauces. It's something Ted has said publicly several times.

Planet Rugby: “I was very vocal about Rennie … I think he’s got it all … If they had done that with Dave Rennie he would have applied for the All Black job … I think we stuffed up quite frankly.”

New Zealand Rugby 'cocked up' by not appointing Wallabies boss Dave Rennie as Steve Hansen's successor as All Blacks coach.

Fox Sports: Henry: “New Zealand Rugby c**ked that up … They should have been connecting with Dave … they didn’t contact Dave Rennie for three years … Dave Rennie is fabulous … I think we stuffed up quite frankly.”

I wonder if it’s time to look at foreign coaches. TBH both Rennie and Joseph underwhelm me a little, and who else from NZ currently coaching is up to that standard? (Schmidt did well initially with Aus, but they haven’t exactly been going gangbusters recently either)

I don't think Schmitt would be keen he has done well with Oz but they do have a depth issue that makes consistent big performances tricky.
Rennie and Joseph sounds good to me but that is without knowing how they jell together.
I also think Cotter would be great for the forwards but him and JJ may be a Hart and Wyllie combo...
Whoever they go for need to be on same page unlike what it looks like now- many different coaches coaching their own systems over complicating and bamboozling the players

I agree that whatever happens we need a cohesive, more simple gameplan that allows the players to do what they do best with everyone on the same page

At this point I feel like 2027 is all but gone and we should focus on the management style of the coaching group, how they interact with the players to create a more unified environment. Probably means Hansen needs to go for starters.

Impose the changes, Razor needs to be told he's lost the right to steer the ship and if doesn't like it he can fuck off

Fuck it, this could have been avoided if we'd taken more notice of what GH said. Where rugby is concerned that man knows what he's doing

    @sparky

    Cheers!

Fuck Dave Rennie a little bit less.

I doubt he is the answer now though, after essentially retiring to Japan.

Less than shocked to hear that NZRU has been unprofessional in coach development. Entire place needs a clean out.

Rennie coached a Scottish club first, so no different to McMillan now, and numerous other NZ coaches who end up in Europe or Japan. There are only so many head coach positions available in NZ, and only one if you want to progress from SR.

But that's not where Rennie went.

I understand that others don't think it's a big deal, but he was coaching the Australian team to beat us. To regain the Bled.
There is plenty of money to be made in the rugby world - choosing that job says something about how he feels about the NZRU, and by extension, the fans who were very strong supporters of his when he was coaching a local team.

I don't think the Boks would appoint at a kiwi, but I'd feel even worse if it were them.

I understand it is job with few opportunities, but I believe that I would choose to give up money to not take away the chance of teams in black to be successful.

You said you were happy for him to coach Ireland, a team that has beaten us way more frequently than Oz. 🤷🏾♂

I don't like it, but for me the biggest thing is that once you pull that lever, you don't get to come home and be our hero by taking on the most coveted coaching job in the country. Piss off. Take your money. Then that's your career; you are French legion.

Scotland, Wales, Italy, Japan all fine

No difference to me. If these things matter I'd be more pissed at Brown even if he is only an assistant coach.

I'll expand, which likely won't give greater clarity.

    Absolute no-nos:
    SA, England, Australia

Ireland probably now goes to that group above, but when he went to Australia, I think they would have been in the group below for me. Argentina are still in the group below, but based on recent results maybe might be going up

    I still don't like it:
    France, Ireland, Argentina

    Go for it:
    Scotland, Wales, Japan, Fiji

My criteria is - do they have the quality to win the WC, Bled, or Rugby Championship? If so, no.

Its the way of the world right? What concerns me more is the idea that a number of our best and brightest don't want to come home and coach

It just opens up more holes, the current Oz team has little to no chance of winning the Bledisloe and that's a two horse race, and I'd give Argentina more chance of winning the RC.

The simple fact is, if Rennie wasn't treated so despicably by NZR, he likely wouldn't have taken up the Oz offer at the time he did. You should be forever grateful he turned your franchise from also rans to contenders. 😉

Mostly it would come to timing, but the last 2 appointments were all but done deals so that has burnt a good number of coaches for 6/7 years now who would likely wanted to apply, but didn't because the roles werent really open, so needed to take other roles.
