And across in the BBL Finn Allen and Mitch Marsh are batting on an absolute road. 69/0 off four. Allen 37 off 14.

Even though he has head explosions. Allen is box office and should be the first name written down whenever he is available.

It will be interesting to see who the BCs select as the openers. Will it be Conway/Allen, Conway/Seifert or Allen/Seifert. Personally I think they’ll go with Conway/Allen. Conway has proven himself in India and like you said, Allen is box office.

One of the openers needed go on those 2 wkts will stop the momentum probably 260/280 score at best now.
Probably will not be enough to defend.

Brilliant innings from Mitchell gets us a few more than 280.

It was closer than I expected in the end. I read that a late dropped catch by Mitchell was costly.

Adi Ashok also dropped one in the 48th over which also proved costly.

Very inexperienced bowling attack. Where was Duffy I thought he was in the squad?
Was always going to be a tough assignment for this team as India are stacked.

Great to see Kylo go so well though, fingers crossed his injuries are behind him and we can get an extended run of games now as he's world class

280 + to win. Kinda thinking that's enough for them.

    I think you are right.
Slow pitch hard to find boundaries and knowing Indian wkts if the first innings is like that it will get lower and slower.

Mitch has been batting it up in ODI's for the past while now.
His scores since Oct have been the following..

    131*
    84
    119
    44
    56*
    78*
    then going back through 2025..
    43
    18
    76
    63
    49
    17
    10
    57
    10
    81
    2
    38

    976 runs @ 65.06
    2 x 100's and 7 x 50's from 19 innings

Its a shame no one really plays alot of ODIs anymore

Assuming now Mitchell has moved to #1 in the ODI rankings
after game one Kohli moved to 1 and Mitch 2 but they are only separated by a single point, 785 vs 784.

That's an absolutely outstanding result with a young team. How fucking good is Mitchell these days, just incredible.

Screenshot 2026-01-15 at 09-59-34 New Zealand ODI matches batting most hundreds career ESPNcricinfo.png

Work is quiet and 99.89% of the fern is focused on some high school All Black drama.....

thats our all time top ODI century scorers to date ( Fleming and Latham also have 8 x 100's)

I'd suggest those 5 pictured would make our all time ODI batting top 5?

    Guptill
    Astle
    Williamson
    Taylor
    Mitchell

Thats if you're happy to leave out Turner and Crowe
Astle might be the weakest link but hes a very sentimental pick for myself and id imagine many others too
he also played in an era where you played it safer in the opening 15 or so overs and built from there
Many of his 100's would have come in wins too.
Plus he gets bonus points for being handy with the ball.

Mitchell's average and strike rate are really off the charts so far.

Mitchell has really impressed in that tricky number 5 role where you have to play the situation in ODIs. He's prepared to dig in when the top order has failed and either build a decent total when batting first or see it through to the end if batting second. He's built a great international career for someone starting it aged 28.
