Great to see Kylo go so well though, fingers crossed his injuries are behind him and we can get an extended run of games now as he's world class

Just saw Mitchell's dropped catch. That was a shocker.

280 + to win. Kinda thinking that's enough for them.

    I think you are right.
Slow pitch hard to find boundaries and knowing Indian wkts if the first innings is like that it will get lower and slower.

Mitch has been batting it up in ODI's for the past while now.
His scores since Oct have been the following..

    131*
    84
    119
    44
    56*
    78*
    then going back through 2025..
    43
    18
    76
    63
    49
    17
    10
    57
    10
    81
    2
    38

    976 runs @ 65.06
    2 x 100's and 7 x 50's from 19 innings

Its a shame no one really plays alot of ODIs anymore

Assuming now Mitchell has moved to #1 in the ODI rankings
after game one Kohli moved to 1 and Mitch 2 but they are only separated by a single point, 785 vs 784.

That's an absolutely outstanding result with a young team. How fucking good is Mitchell these days, just incredible.

Work is quiet and 99.89% of the fern is focused on some high school All Black drama.....

thats our all time top ODI century scorers to date ( Fleming and Latham also have 8 x 100's)

I'd suggest those 5 pictured would make our all time ODI batting top 5?

    Guptill
    Astle
    Williamson
    Taylor
    Mitchell

Thats if you're happy to leave out Turner and Crowe
Astle might be the weakest link but hes a very sentimental pick for myself and id imagine many others too
he also played in an era where you played it safer in the opening 15 or so overs and built from there
Many of his 100's would have come in wins too.
Plus he gets bonus points for being handy with the ball.

Mitchell's average and strike rate are really off the charts so far.

Mitchell has really impressed in that tricky number 5 role where you have to play the situation in ODIs. He's prepared to dig in when the top order has failed and either build a decent total when batting first or see it through to the end if batting second. He's built a great international career for someone starting it aged 28.

its a shame his test record has gone backwards. Hasnt been able to consistently score 100's but his ODI record is superb so far
Only Kohli has a higher average amongst full nations sides.

The fact these two walk into all time XIs for NZ in both formats is a massive credit to both of them as players.

Well in some ways but he's a fine test player too, poor old Hussey Jr never even got a shot despite an amazing FC record ( 14K runs @ 52 )

Astle played in an era where mid 30s was a very good ODI average

yeah nah have to hard disagree there.

Had a dig into Astles 100's
14 of them came in wins.

As mentioned the game was different in his time.
its not like he couldnt bat at an outrageous pace, still holds the test record for the fastest test double hundred after all.

Guptill had his issues, wasnt always consistent but not many ODI openers have an average over 40.00
he's a shoe in to open for me.

Oh I've seen them play bro - admittedly Turner not so much. But Crowe vs Astle? pfft. Ask any bowler. I'd still say it's not even close even if it were an absolute road for every game guaranteed - they're just not in the same class at all.
