I think my prediction from a couple of years ago that Paps will be captain is looking much more likely now.
I'm not sure he 100% holds his spot, tbf, but it would be better it the captain wasn't Savea (of course), so its Taylor or another.
Joseph loved him, and said he would make a great All Black captain - but unfortunately he is heading offshore.
Wonder if he had a get out clause?
Since when is Paps heading offshore?
Sorry if I didn’t make it clear - what I was stating was something Jamie had said behind closed doors.
I am guessing he saw no future with the current group so was seeking a release to go overseas - I had heard he was ‘going’ I don’t know if that means signed.

If JJ gives him an honest go I'd imagine those plans are on hold for now

@canefan Given Jamie liked Sean Withy, and likes Papalii, you get a picture of the sort of openside he generally favours.
Abrasive? Like him?
wouldnt hate a bit of grit

@Kiwiwomble apparently

A hard-nosed tackler who does the hard yards. Across his time at the Highlanders I don’t remember who signing genuine ball-players first outside of Lasaqa.
Prior to we had Christie, Lentjes, Boys etc.

A loose forward who actually loose forwards ?

The Auckland HIGH PERFORMANCE review team take out the Canterbury pretenders. Humbling for sure.
Don Tricker may be based in the US but he is from Porirua.

Would allow Ardie to be Ardie....

So Codie Taylor is just going to walk away
That' would be a horrible shame, especially if he was drawn in to this shit due to their relationship, and was trying to do the right thing. There was that thing about beers after his hundreth floating around so clearly there were divisions which he got caught up in.

If Ryan stays the tight five will not change.
cant be that simple, dont think JJ would put up with an assistant trying to tell him what to do
but Ryan has worked with/under various coaches and they are both old school-I don't see an issue apart from if Ryan feels loyalty/responsibility to Razor.

@Kiwiwomble said in All Blacks 2026:
@canefan are you saying Ardie has been trying to be a conventional loosie to date?
Nope. So we didn't have anyone playing that role. Or if he was, he was doing a poor job of it
-
You know almost time to see who gets the job, and see who gets selected. I honestly be surprised if there huge changes, and if there not we will no doubt still think we know better than coaches etc. But by geez it has made super rugby really interesting to see who put's up hand!

Wasnt Nick Evans name floating around here for a while a couple months ago? Have his and JJ paths ever crossed before?
-
Had to skip to the end as I was still on page 59.
I'm genuinely surprised by this decision and I think I feel a bit sorry for Razor. I didn't agree with lots of his decisions (probably common of most coaches) and don't think the team was going well but I thought he would have been given a chance to right the ship. Unfortunately for him I think he's suffered from the fact Fozzie wasn't replaced last time.
TBH, I'll be disappointed if the assistants remain when Razor goes, although the buck stops with him I think they've all contributed to how things stand.
There'll be a lot players wondering about their positions in the next couple of months. Although we never know who coaches/players like and dislike. No one expected Razor to select Cane, a lot of Cantab players didn't advocate for Deans back in the day etc. Marshall and Spencer were better mates than Marshall and Mehrts.
