Interesting Browns comments about finding a new coach in this article
That it will be hard to find a coach and no one really lined up for the job.
Plus no one has heard anything about the job from NZR. -

or even better, cut out the poison.
This is the key for the next coach, great results will come after this is done I believe.
I hope the NZR empowers the coach to be able to do this.Depends where the poison lies - or laid. Key thing is everyone working to a single goal with clear leadership and roles. Read somewhere that Shag had to apologise for being late to a meeting.
No reason you can't have disagreements or arguments provided they are handled in a mature respectful way by all concerned. Seems that's been lacking if what we hear about Robertson dismissing players concerns is true
Of course a big part of coaching is man management,
But sometimes some players just will not do the best for the greater good those are toxic. And need to be culled or the rot continues .
It really depends if the playing group is divided which is possible.
Does The ABs look a little like the demise of Manchester Untied dominant then a power gap when the dominant coaches and players leave/retire.I've always worked on the basis people want to do a good job. It's pretty easy to spot and cull those who don't. I doubt any of the current squad fit into that category, so it's up to the new coaching set up to manage that.
It's also the mix of people/chemistry that's important. Seen uber-successful management teams which, by the textbooks should have been disastrous. A lot of it is luck, but good selection process can increase the odds.
The problem with coaching is the players playing love you and the players you don’t pick dislike you.In high performance you always have disaffected people it goes hand in hand.
Selection is always the hardest thing to manage. There will be disappointment for players that miss out. But if there is a feeling that the coach is fair reasonable and respectful, I expect that it should be mutual even if there is disagreement
Yeah, it is a tough thing to manage. However:
The reports of what happened with DP suggest that it was managed very poorly. Also Hoskins not getting the call-up as the outstanding Super player of the year - while e.g. Fihaki sneaks some time in the squad... well, tough to sell that as 'fair and reasonable'...
It would be hard for an experienced coach to do worse on that front I would hope. -
I guess its the chicken egg type scenario isnt it.
Do they feel out options before sacking the coach?
Or do they sack the coach due to him not being able to rectify and bank on finding a team to replace him?
Either way, I think for a 3rd consecutive time, we wont have the best coaching 'team' on board (although may be the best available) this years test season is gon' be interesting, after a super season where you'd expect several new faces to put thier hands up too, along with others who have been on the frnges.
-
As it is with other professional sports, midseason or in this case mid-cycle firings always leave you in a difficult position when it comes to rehiring. The next team are essentially interim, with the potential for an extended gig should they do well. The problem is many applicants are already under contract

Well you would think things must’ve been pretty bad to fire him without a succession plan in place if that’s the case .
I was optimistic they had the next step ready to go -

@Chris find that hard to believe.
NZR will have there next group lined up if not signed up who ever it maybe.
Time is running out fast.I think Brown would know, all these reported sightings of Joseph and Brown together I am sure they would talked about it
Why would he say that if he didn't think it.. -

Time is running out fast.so you think theyre lying when they said it would be an open process and hes lying when he says he hasn't heard from them?
any chance NZR was arrogant enough to assume everyone would come running....and they wont?
I do think the kind of person we need (as well as the obvious pedigree) is the confidence to think they can go to SA and win
edit: i notice he said till the next world cup rather than 2031 like Rassie, there were reports he was pushing to have all his assistants signed up to the same

@Kiwiwomble I believe Kirk would have plans in place already. SuperRugby only 4 weeks away NZR will want it sorted by then. Perhaps Brown wasn't even on the list.

Or Joseph ? as Brown said no one knows what is going on and JJ is his best mate.and it will be difficult to find another coach at this time.
Why would he say that if JJ was lined up as coach.“I'm very surprised,” Brown the The Post. “I didn't think they would do that, especially with no one waiting to take over.
“[It’s] definitely not [going to be easy] for them [to find a replacement], especially without a CEO and high-performance manager, so there's lots of things for them to get sorted pretty quickly.
“All the [Springboks] coaches have been chatting on chat groups and things like that, so everyone's pretty surprised and amazed at what's what's been happening.”
On suggestions he could take on a position as an assistant with the All Blacks, Brown added: “Everything's just speculation. I'm not even sure what New Zealand Rugby's plans are. No one's really heard anything.”

Why would he say that if he didn't think it..Here in Australia, in afl and nrl , when players and coaches are questioned on contracts, you take their answers with a grain of salt .
They are like politicians. -

I think we need someone to take a hammer to the poisonous environment we find ourselves in, smash the tick tock if you will.
What is this poisonous environment? All I know for sure that the review (from coaches/management/players) for Robertson was that there were some problems with his direction. He couldn't convince High perfrormnce manager and chair that he had answers , so he was given his cards. Isn't everything else just wild speculation on internet?

I was optimistic they had the next step ready to goThat's why it makes the most sense for the next all black coaching team to be drawn mainly from coaches already contracted to the NZRU

To make it very clear, Robertson needed to go. But, there is no way in hell this team is suddenly going to turn it around in 12 months. No way. Don’t have the cattle, don’t have the skills. After all, beating the ABs last year was literally down to kicking contestable kicks. At the end of the year we could likely be looking at:
- First loss at our fancy new Stadium to what will be a 1st string French team
- First loss at Eden park in how every many years (against Ireland)
- Potentially the Bledisloe gone (least likely)
- How much are Scotland fancying their chances on that first Nh game?
Strap yourself in guys. This could get seriously ugly
