Good enough for me. Add his name to the list. He'd certainly know more about Strength and Conditioning than all the other candidates combined.
I doubt his wife wants to leave the ancestral homeland in a hurry. But boy it can get hot there.
I also read fan complaints he scared away players by having certain rigid views. Which surprises me, because, QLD.I've never met his wife so I can't comment on where she'd like to live but from his podcast when he discussed his coaching I think he'd be quite open to different views.
I could be completely wrong cos I've never met Brad either, I did walk past him on the street some years back though.

Dane Coles is the former All Black on the selection panel
reliable source? can someone confirm...is he one of those players you hear about that was...."full on" on the pitch but secretly quote smart etc off the pitch?
-
Coles who came into first class rugby getting coached by Joseph at Wrllington.

a masterclass in wishful thinking by NZR.
complacency/arrogance/hubris . . .

all aus union teams are shit, doesn't seem to matter who is coaching them
the list of candidates is restricted, and not overly inspiring (to me), Thorn fits right in there
ironically, I thought the last incumbent was very well qualified, but he looked certain to be headed for a crashthe task in front of the new coach is severe, may be a left field appointment might be the go
Rassie was a bit like that when he got his gig
a good chance it could still end badly no matter who they go with -

whats coles "qualifications" (for lack of a better word) for joining the panel, has he done coaching at any serious level or been a people manager? maybe interviewed lots of people before
-
@Kiwiwomble he's an ex-player? Wasnt that all that was mentioned, am guessing being part of the leadership group in one of our most successful periods means he was a leader and probably has good insights, dont thikn they require any special 'qualifications' to sit on the panel?
-
@taniwharugby i guess thats what im asking, why him and not mccaw, DC, Reid, whitelock or conrad smith? if im honest i always think of him as a good player but a bit of a hothead so whats he bring to the table?
i can be cynical and so looking for why him other than those others weren't interested
-
@taniwharugby I think its more interesting we now have Mealamu and Coles involved

Fixed
Absolutely, the voice might be raspy but at least he's coherent and not full of shit.

Ninety All Blacks caps and a World Cup winner's medal.
-
@sparky that tells me hes really good at rugby...and more qualified than me or you but ive also met lots of very good rugby players i wouldnt trust with a sharp knife...so i was curious what differentiated him from others who have over a hundred caps and two WRC medals for example
-
I'm speculating but one thing in his favour might be that he wasn’t one of the untouchable greats.
Plus he had to operate in a group that was pulled together from different environments rather than coming through a Crusaders pipeline with the same guys he'd already been playing with and still earn trust and influence. That could help develop strong people skills and a good feel for group dynamics, not just on-field excellence.
Being a very good player who had to work for his spot, manage emotion and fit into a broader leadership group might give more perspective than being the obvious generational talent. That kind of lens could be pretty useful on a panel.

It could also be as simple as that he accepted an offer when others didn't.
