      @nepia Sotutu is a curious case. IMO he was the or in top 3 Number 8's in Super Rugby but then got surpassed by Jacobson. Now Blackadder has leapt frogged him in the squad due to his versatility.

      Blackadder has leapfrogged him because he’s playing better.

        @bones huh

        How can they possibly be better than union playmakers? They don't play union - and vice versa.

        Kinda #booboo'ed meself.

        Reminds me of something back in the day when TSF 'legend' Red Beard bigged up a column by loigue 'legend' Graham Lowe, whose point was basically the All Blacks props didn't do as many many hit ups as loigue props, therefore they was not as good 'footballers' as the loiguies.

        I do recall asking how many greens they hit in regulation, or what their free throw percentage was.

        They are different games.

          @act-crusader you and your optimism.

          I saw the team and thought yuck. Felt a bit sorry for the likes of Jordan and Jordie who are fighting for a spot and have to do it outside a mish-mash team.

          I expect us to win and will be livid if we lose. But if this team clicks and looks gooood, well that's fucken fantastic and I will only be left with about half a leg dangling off the Fozzy bandwagon. Ok maybe a whole leg.

          Given this “short sharp 7 day lockdown” in Melbourne has now been going for 6 weeks, the ABs bring some optimism!

          Mark Ranby, Stephen Bates, Caleb Ralph, David Hill and Ben Atiga could be running out for the ABs this weekend and I’d find a positive

              At some point Reiko Ioane will take the Centre spot given his level of development and performances. Until then Havili/ALB are the top combo.

              I like Tupaea’s potential, he seems to have very good penetration with ball in hand and strong on defence. Ennor has been taking up a spot without adding value TBH. Not sure why he’s still there. Bridge is another that’s finding hard to get back into form. He seems to be down on pace and has taken to try and run over opposition players.

                @l_n_p have you guys ever watched NRL? Their playmakers (who are far better than Union playmakers imo) just about run sideways more than they run forward… if you’re fast enough and agile enough then running across field occasionally can cause a defence to bite out of the line, leaving holes. If the space is there in front of him, he takes it by running straight. If it’s not there then he tries to create something but changing running lines.

                They have 10m of extra space.
                Every play.

                You know this, right?

                    This seems like a make or break test for Hoskins as he appears to have slipped down the pecking order. He’s at best the 3rd 8.

                    Hopefully he can overcome his second season blues.

                    No disrespect to Hoskins and a lot of sympathy, but bloody pleased we have such depth that someone as good as him is 3rd choice No. 8

                          I suggest ALB is probably our first choice 12, and Goodhue our first choice 13 ... But not sure those who count see it that way

                          I always reckon ALB is a better 13 than Goodhue, and Havili is now best 12 we got. I actually tjink Tupaea will put a bit of pressure on as a 12 too.

                          Tupaea had a long way to go, long long way. I don't rate him at all. Goodhue has gone backwards at a rate of knots, really it's havili, ALB, and Reiko.... Daylight

                          I not in anyway suggesting Tupaea is there yet, I have liked the way boy plays at 12 at super level, and I still think there will be pressure from him in a couple of years. I don't tend to think you see anything but the potential if first couple of years as these young un's get used to test rugby.

                                  Wow. I always thought DMac had 3-4 starts there.

                                  He played well there against a French team with one foot on the plane already. He has some potential, but like Jordie he needs to calm down a bit and wait for opportunities to present themselves instead of always trying to create. Jordie has found that balance at 15 now, would be great if DMac can do something similar.

                                    @act-crusader you and your optimism.

                                    You think he's still fighting for a spot? I reckon he's an absolute lock to start when fit right now.

                                    I'd have him locked, definitely. But I don't think he is - I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see BB or DMac starting there instead.

                                        the locking pair remind me of some old rookie and experienced but apathetic cop movie ... then again what options are there.. wings are interesting ... pace and power on one wing and Jordan on the other...
                                        DMac at 10 huh. He'll show those armchair critics .. something ... the good thing about DMac's play is it doesn't sit on the fence ... good for him.
                                        Ardie at 7 yes? Great to see the loosies start in what should be their normal positions ... but Ardie has nearly 20 less starts than TJP, although nearly 2 years younger, that shocked me..

                                          What's shocking about that? Seems about right to me.
