@Kirwan I see Owen's has had his usual post game review...if he wants to be involved he should really get on the referees panel or whatever to try and help the current crop of coaches instead of stirring the pot saying this and that was wrong and he'd have done this or that...

Why? Can't he just be another punter who's doing a "vlog" (probably because he's been asked to) that people can either take notice of or not? Instead he's only allowed to commit himself to more time and travel than just sitting down and recording a video on his farm.

Are all the guys on panel shows and other YouTubers also required to do this?

I guess he can do what he wants, but I think people shouldn't take what he says too seriously these days. He was obviously a good (& charismatic) ref, but his opinions in these videos are sometimes a little wonky

I think his opinion is probably at least just as valid as most other punters on shows, I can't really see how it's a bad thing - especially as I'd rather him inspiring people and refs to learn the laws than some of the other shit refs....but I don't really catch his videos much. I guess if you don't like them you could do similar. Or start up your own channel doing response videos!

I have no idea if Mark Lawrence does anything but he'd be one worth noting.

Sure, I don't disagree, I think his videos are a bit of fun and his opinions have a lot more credibility that most other commentators.

I saw one a while back (can't remember which incident now) where it was clear he didn't actually know the law in question when he was talking about what he would have done. That subjective/ discretionary element is an important part of Rugby refereeing, I just always assumed that top refs would also know the laws inside out so it was an eye opener. Just made me realise that while his opinion is valuable it's not gospel.

George Nepia once scored a try under the posts in a match - when he was the referee. Sadly, charity matches in the 50s weren't televised so we have no footage.

Now, can we pan all the referees who can't count 5 seconds after "use it"?

I'd also like referees to know what stopping means in regards to mauls.

15s time should be reffed the same as 7s time. Sorted. All the humungous beasts would have to lose 10-15kgs of muscle to get fit. Even better reduce the bench - the 8 on the bench but only allowed to use 5 or whatever is a good start.

I think that was to stop the continous water carries on the field at every stoppage. It might even speed the game up? Just put a table on the half way line, either side - help yourself boys, but the game ain't stopping. And if you are front row and required? Whelp free kick to the opposition

Yep. Idea was to stop lots of small delays by creating one per half when there was an injury being dealt to.
Does get weird when there is no injury and they just stop though.

@Daffy-Jaffy I stopped watching at 4 mins after hearing not one mention of Foley's and his teammates actions. They're not trying to discuss the incident, they're just having a sooky.

                                      Exactly.

Lineout throws overturned for not being thrown in time.

Scrum feeds overturned for not being put in.

That video actually makes it even worst for Foley.

Fair play to Raynal there. He was clear when he told Foley to carry on, told him time on, gave him plenty of time to kick the ball and warned him a 3rd time.

And when Nic White demanded an explanation, he was again really clear and told him firmly and politely why he made the decision and why it was right

Spot on. All of them ignored the elephant in the room - Foley repeatedly ignoring the Ref's instructions (twice) to get on with a penalty kick. And astonishing to hear one former player saying she had no idea that was a rule
