Kini has likely played his last game for the Canes. Gone for the season.

Just spoke to a Japan contact about this.

‘The club were waiting on the result of the injury and that will impact his contract’ were the words.

Seeing as it’s an ACL, I wouldn’t be surprised if they can withdraw their contract offer, either that or it would be for a significantly less sum . Might end up seeing him back in Canes colours next season if the above happens.

Here's hoping. I think the form he was in pre injury probably had him re-thinking his choice in Japan anyway.

Club he was/is heading too looks likely to drop to Div 2 if what the Taranaki union man told me is correct, so they may see it as good chance to save some $s anyway. He would probably be wasted there.

Can confirm Devan Flanders played the whole second 40 for Havelock North v Taradale. Havelock won 38-31 against the previously unbeaten Taradale.

He’ll likely come straight onto the reserve bench next week for the Canes after Iose was in a brace after the game last night.

                Good to have him back.

Alright, so the equation is simple. Beat the Reds on Friday and then Moana the following week and we will end up in 4th.

Big injury clouds over Punivai and Iose but thankfully we have depth at wing, and the likely return of Flanders to offset the Iose injury. Not sure if Sullivan will also be available against the Reds after failing an HIA. I assume not so with Lomax and Delany also likely to be out I think our team will resemble the below.

                  1. Numia
                  2. Aumua
                  3. Tosi
                  4. Gallagher
                  5. Walker-Leawere
                  6. Shields
                  7. Kirifi
                  8. Lakai
                  9. Roigard
                  10. Love
                  11. Fineanganofo
                  12. Higgins
                  13. Proctor
                  14. Sullivan/Banks
                  15. Harkin
                  16. Tuputupu
                  17. Rakete-Stones
                  18. Mafileo
                  19. Plummer
                  20. Flanders
                  21. Enari
                  22. Cameron
                  23. Umaga-Jensen

With some injury returns, that canes bench could really outshine the chiefs. Especially if the canes are allowed to select just Higgins as the starting XV and have a 22 strong bench.

Hopefully he re-signs with the Canes. With Jordie coming back, spots in the backline next year will be competitive. Wingers are the obvious weak area if we lose Naholo.

Naholo won’t come back the same player… 26 year-old winger coming off an ACL, when has that ever ended well?

Worrying news for the Canes from ClubRugby NZ - Good to see a pair of Hurricanes players on the sideline at the Polo Ground supporting their teams after their tough shift the previous night. Xavier Numia and Peter Lakai…both wearing moonboots!

Hopefully just precautionary as they both seemed okay post the final whistle on Friday.

How bad has our season been on the injury front? I was hoping that after we got over our tough start perhaps we could stay healthy. But nope

The Cruasaders and Canes were by far the worst hit at the beginning of the season. Blues have mostly gone through the season pretty well, same with the Chiefs with injuries here and there. Landers have been hit hard lately.

It’s just rugby at the end of the day. Just have to get on with it and win with the guys we have.

Still a strong squad IMO so no excuses.
