Just watched. Christie and Beehre were impressive. Lam good too and Rieko much more prominent. Shame about the godlkicking as BB looked threatening with ball in hand.
Brumbies will be a threat when they get Valetini and Lolesio back. But Scott and Meredith were very very good tonight.

Very interesting to see how they've rebalanced the pack without Valetini - Cale is pure link man on the edge and they're getting more out of Hooper through the middle, along with Scott who is quietly cementing his place with a really good all-around game.

Slipper and AAA = experience as well as knowing how to roll their sleeves up. Lonergan and Pollard interchangeable at hooker. Locking pair just grafting.

The ceiling on that pack might not be as high as some teams, but the floor isn't far away.

Congratulations to their Brumbies. Kept their discipline and self-belief to seize that one.

“He will need an X-ray. It doesn't look particularly good, but we wait for the results,” Blues coach Cotter said.

That’s now four weeks in a row where the opposition have out-carried and outmuscled the Blues, the Brumbies carrying 151 times (to the Blues’ 121) and forming 138 rucks (to the Blues’ 88).

A real blueprint is starting to take shape for beating them as well: 1. Take on their forward pack directly, through the set-piece and the breakdown; 2. Disrupt the lines of their cleaners, through off the ball 'bumps' or by rolling into the space of the oncoming cleaners; 3. Keep possession for lengthy spells, which takes away the Blues’ possession game; and 4. Kick contestables, which removes their counter-attacking ability (see the Barrett try in the first half) and puts pressure on their (apparently fragile) high-ball ability.

There aren’t any real easy solutions for the Blues either. They simply need to massively up their accuracy and physicality, in pretty much every area.

Without trying to pick on the guy, Segner made 27 tackles! People will wank on about it like it's some mammoth effort, but for me , as the prime ball winner out there, he's making way too many tackles. He simply dies not attack the ball at breakdown time. It's fine if we had others out there who are specialists at winning ball, but we don't, and the Brumbies did well taking him out of the game. He's well behind Papali'i and Choat for me when they're fit.

I see the blues lost. Again. But I thought vern cotter was the guy who would have made the ABs great, especially with his world class number 8.

Maybe international coaching is harder than club coaching?

I followed vern a bit when he coached at Clermont. He’s good but he also lost quite a few crunch matches with Clermont especially at European level.

Yeah, we did. Problem with Segner for me though is that he doesn't seem to want to adjust his style and look to scan across the defensive line to look to win turnover ball. He's just going in and acting as first tackler by default, and the Brumbies were more than happy to oblige and keep running at him. We have enough guys out there to do that role of playing first tackler.

Well that was how Blues lost there first games, I know it was trendy to blame BB and Christie, when the trouble is the team (mainly forwards) seem so disconnected to me. Oh and Plummer is a bit of a cast horse, pretty slowish? But he not problem, when you have players tackled and time and again they are isolated with no cleaners ,you are asking to lose ball. But regardless I thought it a bloody good watch, and super seems to keep on giving.

@African-Monkey yeah Segner also.doesnt seem someone who targets turnovers anyway, high work rate with tackling and ruck work, meaning the blues.are missing someone to put turnover pressure on.

Really had 3 6's out there last night in the loose.

Beehre is a talent, and Cam Christie looks the business too, always good to see quality young players come through.

Just watching it now. Feel bad for the blues. Lineout at 76:30 was not contested. So then the not straight doesn’t matter? Shouldn’t that be play on with the current rules?

@African-Monkey yeah Segner also.doesnt seem someone who targets turnovers anyway, high work rate with tackling and ruck work, meaning the blues.are missing someone to put turnover pressure on.

Really had 3 6's out there last night in the loose.

Beehre is a talent, and Cam Christie looks the business too, always good to see quality young players come through.

Yeah they have been fantastic. Darry did improve last year, but could Beehre end up being better than him? He's probably been our best player so far.

@African-Monkey Not as tall, but seems more physical. Some really good carrying and tackling. Will be interesting to see how his cleaning and general ruck work develops.

On the other hand, maul work and set piece. We really miss Ioane there.
